Federal roads in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina will already have this new technology at Arteris toll booths

Your trips on the highways managed by Arteris will be faster with the innovation that the company has brought: payment by approaching the toll. This new technology allows payment with credit and debit cards and is already being implemented on some highways managed by the company in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and Paraná. The goal is for this payment system to be available in all serviced highways.

Proximity payment is a technology that was implemented in 2021 and is now stronger than ever. Therefore, Arteris saw in this method a way of optimizing toll payments and making life easier and more practical for those traveling on highways. Check out more about how this new payment method will work in today's article.

Arteris expands its expertise in highway management with greater toll comfort

The large highway administrator Arteris began testing payments by approximation using credit and debit cards, reducing the time passengers spend in queues. The adoption of this new method makes the company one of the pioneers in the field to implement such technology, and the objective is for it to be present in all routes administered by the company in the coming years.

The tests are being carried out in 500 cabins of the federal concessionaires Fernão Dias (São Paulo and Minas Gerais), Régis Bittencourt (São Paulo and Paraná), Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro), Planalto Sul and Litoral Sul (Paraná and Santa Catarina). In addition to credit and debit cards, people will be able to pay with smart watches with NFC technology and smartphones, all designed to facilitate the process.

“We constantly study solutions that bring comfort to users, always combining technology with our experience in highway management. According to our studies, contactless payment was the best alternative found to offer drivers an additional modality, without jeopardizing traffic flow and safety at the toll plaza.”.

Andre Bianchi, Director of Operations at Arteris (2022)

NFC technology and payment by Arteris' new method

NFC technology is the acronym for the term in English Near Field Communication, which stands for Field Proximity Communication. Many types of credit card, debit card and electronic devices rely on this technology and enable transactions. That way, if your cell phone or smart watch has NFC, they can be used to pay Arteris tolls.

A Arteris is one of the largest highway management companies in Brazil, responsible for 3.200 kilometers of roads in the Southeast (São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro) and South (Santa Catarina and Paraná) states. It manages 5 main and large federal concessions: Fernão Dias, Régis Bittencourt, Litoral Sul, Planalto Sul and Fluminense. In addition, it is a subsidiary of the São Paulo concessionaires Intervias and ViaPaulista.

Under the command of international companies from Spain and Canada (Albertis and Brookfield), the company has already had an injection of more than R$20 billion in works that have contributed to the advancement of Brazil. In this way, it achieved the landmark reduction of 51% of fatalities on highways between 2010 and 2020, reaching the targets established by the United Nations (UN) for safer traffic.
