Historic investment of R$132 million in infrastructure promises to transform Teresina into one of the best capitals in the Northeast
This Monday, November 11th, the service order will be signed for the start of the works to duplicate and adapt the Teresina Road Bypass, a section of the BR-343/PI. With the presence of the regional superintendent of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) in Piauí, José Ribamar Bastos, and Governor Rafael Fonteles, the event will take place at 9 am on Avenida dos Ipês, near the Mercado do Peixe. With a robust budget of R$ 132 million, the project aims to more efficiently connect the east and south zones of the capital.
Objective of the work
The Teresina Bypass is an essential route that connects several neighborhoods in the city, including Planalto Uruguai, Gurupi, Grande Dirceu, Recanto das Palmeiras and Tancredo Neves. The project aims to not only increase traffic capacity, but also to improve safety and flow for drivers and pedestrians. The project includes:
- Duplication of Tracks: The lanes will be widened to allow for greater vehicle flow and reduce congestion.
- High Quality Paving: With resistant and long-lasting materials, the new paving should reduce maintenance costs in the future.
- Improved Signaling: With more visible signs and markings, drivers will have clearer guidance during their journey.
- Modernized Intersections: To facilitate the transition between different roads and avoid dangerous intersections.
Importance of BR-343 for Teresina
Superintendent José Ribamar Bastos emphasizes that BR-343 is a fundamental route for the mobility of Teresina. The adaptation of this road is a response to the accelerated urban growth and the increase in traffic in recent years. According to him, the work seeks to balance the flow of vehicles with the safety of users, something essential for the quality of life of the local population.

In addition to improving infrastructure for the city's residents, the project is also strategic for the transportation of cargo and passengers throughout the region, contributing to the state's economic development.
Impact on traffic and deadline for completion
The estimated completion date for the project is 36 months, or approximately three years. During this period, local traffic may need to be adjusted to allow the works to progress. DNIT reports that control measures and temporary detours will be implemented to minimize disruption to the population.
The Teresina Bypass Road is a project of great importance for the capital of Piauí. With a significant investment and a detailed project, the widening and improvements to BR-343 are expected to bring lasting benefits, facilitating mobility between areas of the city and increasing the safety of all who use the road.
