More investments for the renewable energy sector! CPP and Votorantim Energia will build wind farms in the Northeast region

Votorantim Energia and CPP (CPP Investimenst – a joint venture formed by Votorantim Energia and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) will build two new wind farms in the Northeast and will spend around R$2 billion on the works (Ventos do Piauí II and III) .

In the wind energy market since 2015 with the Ventos do Piauí I project (operating since 2017 with an installed capacity of 205,9 MW), Votorantim Energia signed a joint venture with CPP Investments so that they could provide for the development of the clean energy sector in Brazil.

The beginning of the works is scheduled for the beginning of next year and its completion is scheduled for 2023. During this time, numerous jobs will be generated, directly and indirectly, to meet the needs of the works.

Operations at the wind farms are scheduled for 2022. Each complex will have five wind farms located in the Serra do Inácio region, between the states of Piauí and Pernambuco. Together, the two complexes will have a combined installed capacity of 411,6 MW.

According to the CEO of Votorantim Energia and the chairman of the board of the joint venture, Fábio Zanfelice, “Together with the wind farms Ventos do Piauí I and Ventos do Araripe III, these projects will form the largest wind generation cluster in Brazil. The Joint Venture will be responsible for 5% of the country's wind generation base and 36% of the wind generation base in Piauí. There will be 976,2 MW of installed generation capacity, 745,2 MW in that state and 231,0 MW in Pernambuco“.

However, 60% of the capacity of the complexes has already been contracted by Votorantim Cimentos and by Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio, CBA. The remainder will be sold on the free market.
