With an announcement for 2025, São Martinho, one of the largest companies in the sugar-energy sector in Brazil, invests in a plant that promises to transform vinasse into renewable energy

According to O Empreiteiro Magazine, the Saint Martin, one of the largest companies in the sugar-energy sector in Brazil, is about to make a significant leap in the renewable energy market. With a robust investment of approximately R$250 million, the company is preparing to inaugurate its first biomethane plant in Américo Brasiliense, in the interior of São Paulo. The goal? Produce around 15 million cubic meters of biomethane per harvest, an achievement that will contribute significantly to the energy transition in the country.

The manufacture of biomethane It will be a milestone in the use of sustainable technologies and renewable energy, as it is generated through the biodigestion of vinasse, a residue from ethanol production. This process is innovative, as it will allow São Martinho to fully take advantage of the potential for generating biomethane from vinasse, a previously underutilized source. Furthermore, this initiative is an example of how the sugar-energy sector can play a fundamental role in the production of clean energy, helping to combat greenhouse gas emissions and reducing dependence on fossil natural gas.

Biomethane – A sustainable alternative to natural gas

The São Martinho biomethane plant is not only an innovation in the renewable energy sector, but also a bold strategy to enter the renewable natural gas market. The biomethane produced by the company has the capacity to replace fossil gas, providing a cleaner and more sustainable alternative. This not only meets the growing needs of a region with high fossil fuel consumption, but also positions São Martinho as a leader in the transition to fossil fuel sources. cleaner and more renewable energy.

São Martinho's biomethane production will begin at 20% of its potential, connecting to the distribution system via gas pipeline. This will allow the company to offer a renewable alternative to customers in the Araraquara region, in the northeast of the state of São Paulo. The ability to deliver pressurized or injected biomethane through the natural gas distribution network is a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Positive environmental impact and strategic partnerships

In addition to its commitment to the production of biomethane natural gas, São Martinho also demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability. With the operation of the biomethane plant, the company estimates that it will avoid the emission of up to 32 thousand equivalent tons of greenhouse gases. This is a notable milestone in reducing carbon emissions and contributes to the global fight against climate changes.

To make this project a reality, São Martinho relies on strategic partnerships. The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), through the BNDES Climate Fund program, and the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation provided the necessary financing to carry out this ambitious project. These partnerships demonstrate the public sector's commitment to supporting renewable energy initiatives, such as popularizing natural gas and technological innovation.

São Martinho is preparing for a significant transformation in the renewable energy scenario with the construction of its biomethane natural gas plant. This massive investment will not only open up new opportunities for biomethane production and commercialization, but will also have a positive environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With strategic partnerships and an unwavering commitment to sustainability process, São Martinho is on the right path to lead the energy transition in Brazil and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future. The energy of the future is biomethane, and São Martinho is ready to lead the way.
