Work on the R$310 million Joinville Bridge in the South Zone is driving planning for a new road link.

The construction of a new bridge in the southern part of Joinville, which is underway and scheduled for completion in 2026, is prompting the planning of a new road connecting the southern and eastern neighborhoods of the city. The city government is studying the feasibility of the project, which could provide mobility solutions for approximately 56 residents in the region. The initiative is linked to the progress of the current construction project in Joinville, which involves the Joinville Bridge, a substantial investment of R$310 million.

Construction of new bridge underway

The city of Joinville has its eyes on the future of urban mobility. With the construction of a new bridge underway, a planned road will connect the neighborhoods of Adhemar Garcia, Ulysses Guimarães and Paranaguamirim.

In addition to benefiting thousands of residents, the project includes a new connection to the Rio do Morro highway and BR-280 in Araquari. The proposed route partially uses existing roads, but much of the route crosses rural areas, including the deactivated lagoons of the Jarivatuba sewage treatment plant.

While the completion of the Joinville Bridge remains a key piece, with delivery scheduled for 2026, the work in Joinville also points to a more ambitious future: the Eastern Bypass. This project seeks to create a connection even further away from the urban perimeter, connecting the South to the East in a more distant route, covering neighborhoods such as Boa Vista, Comasa and Aventureiro. However, the execution of the bypass faces environmental challenges and a lack of resources, as was the case previously with the Beira-mangue proposal.

Crucial step towards expanding mobility in Joinville

The planning of the new road and the eastern bypass reinforces the strategic importance of building a new bridge. In addition to improving local traffic, the new connection is seen as a crucial step towards expanding mobility in Joinville, although it still depends on technical, environmental and financial feasibility studies.

Whether short or long term, the projects that emerge with the completion of the current work in Joinville reflect the transformative potential of urban infrastructure. However, the success of this vision will depend not only on planning, but on investment and coordination between different sectors. The city is moving forward, but the challenges remain in line with its plans.

It is high time for Joinville to design and use subway lines. It would be a more efficient way to relieve congestion on roads and provide speed and convenience for the movement of thousands of workers.
