Last Thursday, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved Copel's millionaire investment in works at the substation in Paraná
Copel – Companhia Paranaense de Energia, announced an investment of 38 million reais in the substation in Guaíra, a municipality located on the border of Brazil with Paraguay and the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is foreseen that the old equipment will be replaced by a new transformer with a higher power. This change will double the production capacity at the substation and will benefit some regions in the state of Paraná.

Moacir Carlos Bertol, general director of Copel Geração e Transmissão, said that “Our teams have already started planning this intervention, which will be divided into several stages. It is a very important reinforcement for Paraná’s energy security in the coming decades and will also bring gains for Copel”, he explains. “When we put the already renovated substation into operation, we will have an increase of almost R$6 million in Permitted Annual Transmission Revenue.”
Last Thursday, September 24th, Aneel – National Electric Energy Agency, authorized the investment through Resolution No. 9.219. 2024 is the estimated time for completion of the works.

The transformation power of the new Guaíra substation was increased from 300 MVA to 600 MVA and will integrate a new transmission trunk planned by the Energy Research Company (EPE), with double circuit lines operating at extra high voltage (525 thousand volts) to connect the Foz do Iguaçu, Guaíra, Sarandi and Londrina substations.
The biggest advantage of this type of trunk is that even during severe droughts in the South, the energy from Itaipu and the energy coming from the Southeast, the connection point with the Assis substation in São Paulo, can be used to guarantee service throughout the region. Furthermore, this reinforcement in Guaíra will reduce the voltage of Itaipu's 765.000-volt network, increasing the system's reliability in the event of accidental disconnection of equipment that supplies parts of the state's network.
