Association stated that distributors received 23 proposals from national and international companies interested in piped gas from the Northeast
Abegás (Brazilian Association of Piped Gas Distributors) disclosed last Tuesday (16/04), that distributors in the Northeast received twenty-three proposals for a competition to acquire and distribute gas in the region.
Proposals were made by nine companies, including national and international groups, and are part of a bidding process opened by the Association last year with a view to diversifying the supplying sources of natural gas, which today belongs to Petrobras.
At the beginning of the month the government had already approved the resolution establishing the Competition Committee for the Natural Gas Market in Brazil, with the aim of seeking more competitive prices and guaranteeing free access to the existing gas pipeline network in the country, which has 60% idle capacity, according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The distributors in the Northeast participating in the process are Algás (Alagoas), Bahiagás (Bahia), Cegás (Ceará), PBgás (Paraíba), Copergás (Pernambuco), Potigás (Rio Grande do Norte) and Sergás (Sergipe).
Each Concessionaire will receive the respective proposals to verify compliance with its public notice, which contemplated the volume of 9,4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
High interest also in the South region
With a potential volume of 9,9 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, the Center-South region of the country also aroused the interest of companies in distributing natural gas.
In a recent public call that had the deadline for submission of proposals ended on the twenty-ninth of March, fifty-one offers were received from 15 different companies, including six global players, three traders, three of synthesis/renewable gas and three of small scale liquefied natural gas.
