A survey carried out by ONTL recently pointed out that, in addition to contributing to the diversification of the transport matrix in Brazil, the prices of cabotage cargo transport with BR do Mar will become even lower in the country.

Cabotage can reduce the value of products in remote regions and thus benefit these more remote locations. BR do Mar, a cabotage incentive program, aims to make a difference and bring benefits to these regions.

Last Wednesday (27/07), it was announced that the remote regions do Brasil can benefit from a drop in product prices driven by Cabotage operations, this happens with the creation of the BR do Mar program that encourages the process, aiming to make a difference for the most remote locations in the country.

New project aims to bring more quality to remote regions of Brazil

In this sense, it is important to point out that, currently, even with technological advances, there are still places that, because they live further away from large centers, suffer from negative impacts on the supply of items that are more than essential for everyday life, such as basic hygiene products. . Thus, Cabotage is a very important point to combat this problem.

According to data from the Povos Ribeirinhos Project, launched in 2020, an initiative by the General Secretariat of Missions (SGM) that aims to support actions that benefit the quality of life of Brazilian riverside communities, 37 thousand people live in isolation, on the banks of the rivers that cross the largest Brazilian state, Amazonas, which is only accessible by boat. For this reason, the cabotage process plays a fundamental role in meeting the needs of the most remote parts of the country.

“Brazil has almost 8 kilometers of coastline, making it easier to choose cabotage as the main means of connection in the country. As a result, the costs of products transported by ship can be reduced by between 15% and 20% compared to road transport. This can positively impact the cost of living in an entire region”, highlights Valter Branco, Multimodal Transport Manager at Mercosul Line.

The Cabotage process will be carried out by the Mercosur Line group

Thus, Mercosul Line, is a Brazilian shipowner part of the CMA CGM Group, and also a global player in maritime, land, air and logistics solutions, which operates multimodal logistics, using cabotage as the main operational modal to guarantee a service without interruptions to your customers. Using the state of Amazonas as an example, Mercosur offers the region a BRACO-type service, an operational line with a fast transit line, connecting the south and southeast with the north of the country.

This is because access to a large part of the region is unfeasible by land transport and, therefore, integrated logistics is essential, as it aims at easy access to the Amazon River. In addition, the cabotage process has additional advantages such as cost reduction and sustainability, since it emits at least five times less CO2 when compared to rail transport.

Cabotage also guarantees more safety, fewer breakdowns, better management and competitive costs, in addition to having a competitive lead time and reducing distances, which is most important for these remote regions.

“Our ships transport large batches of containers from the most varied segments, serving the main ports in Brazil. The advance of stock to the distribution centers allows orders from customers in remote areas to be met with greater speed and efficiency; therefore, cabotage transport plays a fundamental role in the logistics and distribution strategy to serve regions that are far from urban centers and that are difficult to access”, says Alexandre Souza, Commercial Director of Mercosul Line.
