It’s Jurong Aracruz shipyard’s turn! Shipbuilding in Brazil is recovering and many works have been announced. Recently Brasfels, in Angra dos Reis and Estaleiro Edison Chouest, in Santa Catarina, also announced new contracts and job vacancies.

Brazil's shipbuilding sector is recovering and shipyards have frequently won contracts and job vacancies have been created in the sector. Sembcorp Marine Ltd, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), has secured a Contract Addendum from Tupi BV valued at approximately US$175 million for modification works to be completed on the Floating Production, Storage and Transfer Unit (FPSO) P-71, and more opportunities are being generated in the region.

Originally designed for the Tupi field, FPSO P-71 will undergo modifications and integration into the EJA for deployment in the Itapu field. The scope of work of EJA includes modifying existing systems and integrating additional systems into the platform (the “Project”).

Measuring 316m in length and 54m in width, FPSO P-71 is capable of handling 150.000 barrels of oil per day and six million cubic meters of natural gas in operation. It has a storage capacity of 1,6 million barrels of oil and can accommodate 160 people. The delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the last quarter of 2022.

EJA is known for being one of the largest and most advanced shipyards in Brazil

Mr. Guhan Thangavelu, President of EJA said: “Our Shipyard (EJA) is renowned for being one of the largest and most advanced shipyards in Brazil for offshore products and solutions, and is strategically located on the east coast of Brazil to cater for field developments in the Atlantic , Gulf of Mexico and West Africa sectors. This project provides an opportunity to showcase EJA's capabilities to undertake complex, large-scale engineering projects with rapid design adaptation and superior subsea layout.”

“We thank Tupi BV and its partners for choosing Sembcorp Marine and the EJA team to deliver yet another floating unit to augment their world-class assets for deployment in deep and ultra-deep waters. Amidst the challenge induced by the pandemic, we remain committed to the safe and timely execution of the project.”

In September 2019, EJA delivered the new FPSO P-68 to Tupi BV which is currently installed in the ultra deep water fields of Berbigão and Sururu in the Santos Basin, Brazil.

The amendment to the Agreement is not expected to have any material impact on the Company's consolidated net tangible assets and earnings per share for the year ending December 31, 2021.
