Firjan released the 2022 oil yearbook and pointed out a series of future projections for the oil and natural gas market in Rio de Janeiro, reinforcing the prominent position in the energy transition due to the production of low-carbon oil.

Last Thursday (11/08), the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) released the oil yearbook for the year 2022 and reinforced that the state's experience in supplying goods and services can guarantee a strong growth in the oil. In addition, for the first time, there was a notebook focused on the energy transition in the country, which reinforced the potential of the state in the field of sustainability due to the production of low-carbon oil.

The energy transition industry can benefit greatly from Rio de Janeiro's goods and services, points out a Firjan report

Compared to the world energy market, Firjan highlights in the Rio de Janeiro region the experience in providing goods, services and equipment for the maritime oil industry and the lower carbon footprint in Rio de Janeiro's industrial production.

Placing the state as one of the country's powers for the future of energy transition, especially in terms of low-carbon oil production.

Data from the federation prove that the Brazilian supplier has a carbon footprint six times lower than the Chinese one in the production of a good and 4,6 times lower than the global average. In this way, the state of Rio de Janeiro can become even more relevant in supplying the low-carbon oil and natural gas industry.

Furthermore, with Petrobras' divestment plan and the sale of mature fields in Brazil, this scenario becomes even more favorable to the state, according to Firjan.

The federation gathered the main information of the sector in the launch of the 2022 oil yearbook and, for the first time, brought a notebook focused only on the energy transition, which reinforced the state's potential in the sustainable supply of inputs.

According to Firjan's vice-president, Raul Sanson, the government of Rio de Janeiro now needs to focus its efforts on ensuring the necessary tax incentives for the growth of the energy transition market in the region.

Rio de Janeiro already stands out in the field of low-carbon oil production, but it can advance numbers with the right incentives

O report da Firjan also proved the socioeconomic relevance of the oil production market in the Carioca region, since more than 50% of the workforce employed exclusively in the oil market in Brazil is located in Rio, due to the location of the Campos basins and Santos. Thus, the state has an 80% share in national oil production, with a production of almost 2 million barrels per day of this fuel.

In addition, projections by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) show that the State should receive R$ 380,71 billion in investments in oil production between 2022 and 2026. de Janeiro can contribute for the region to become a world reference in the energy transition. But there needs to be the necessary incentives for this to happen over the next few years.

Finally, Firjan highlights the adequacy of Rio de Janeiro's workforce in relation to the energy transition market and states that there is a need for more qualification: "The diversity and complementarity of energy sources have increased and this will be reflected in the professional that this industry will hire. Employees will have to be “multifunctional” and know how to talk about the energy industry as a whole, for example”.
