Intense heat wave triggers an alarm in the energy consumption of homes and companies, indicates CCEE.

In a panorama of rising temperatures, the first two weeks of September saw an increase of 4,2% in electricity consumption when compared to the same period of the previous year. This growth, which reached the mark of 41.442 average megawatts, came as a direct response to the demand from distributors responsible for supplying homes and small businesses, according to the figures revealed by Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE).

Cooling equipment is the protagonist

The second most significant advance of the year in the energy segment was caused by a notable heat wave that devastated Brazil. This climate fever, in turn, increased the operability of refrigeration devices such as air conditioning and fans. Among the states, Acre led the increase ranking, presenting a rate of 19,7%, followed closely by Rio de Janeiro with 16,8% and Amazonas with a growth of 14,6%.

Solar farms on the rise

The rise in temperatures not only boosted consumption but also proved to be beneficial for the production of solar farms. These units recorded an energy contribution of 2.657 average MW to the grid, translating into a percentage increase of 42,5% compared to the previous year. Minas Gerais stood out as the main producer, with 1.108 average MW, followed by Bahia (522 average MW) and Piauí (277 average MW).

CCEE highlighted

Established in 1999, the CCEE operates as a non-profit civil association, playing a crucial role in facilitating electricity purchase and sale transactions in Brazil. With a commitment to ensuring the adequate distribution of this essential input to the population and productive sectors, it brings together various entities, including generators, distributors, traders and consumers. Under its aegis, which permeates both the free and regulated contracting environment, more than R$150 billion is handled annually, solidifying its role as a prominent entity in promoting effective, contemporary and sustainable markets for the benefit of the community.
