The adoption of more electric trucks is associated with the reduction of polluting gas emissions by the Seara brand, in addition to the low cost of these vehicles
A In the evening intends, until January 2023, to increase from 19 to 200 the number of 100% electric refrigerated vehicles used for the distribution of its products throughout the national territory. The expectation is that the new electric trucks in circulation will contribute to reducing scope 3 emissions of greenhouse gases, which is in line with the JBS Group's efforts to become Net Zero by 2040.
The group, in which the Seara brand is included, hopes that year to bring to zero the balance of its Scope 1 emissions, referring to direct operations, Scope 2, related to energy, and Scope 3, related to suppliers and the supply chain. post-industrial.
Seara will use electric trucks supplied by No Carbon, which will reduce annual emissions of carbon dioxide equivalent by approximately 6 thousand tons
No Carbon, a new JBS Novos Negócios company dedicated to leasing electric trucks, will be responsible for supplying vehicles to Seara. The company's trucks have 170 kilometers of autonomy, in addition to the capacity to transport up to 4 tons of cargo. They are also equipped with refrigerated chests, simultaneously storing chilled and frozen products.

Each truck prevents around 30 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent from being released into the atmosphere. Therefore, the introduction of 200 new vehicles in Seara's transport fleet will enable the reduction of approximately 6 tons of emissions per year, which is equivalent to planting 45 trees. This can be explained by the fact that electric trucks will replace diesel vehicles, which are much more polluting.
Director of Logistics at Seara highlights the reasons behind the greater adoption of electric vehicles by the brand
Seara's Director of Logistics, Fabio Artifon, says that the brand's objective is to increasingly expand the range of sustainable and low-carbon logistics solutions. According to him, his goal is, therefore, to stop electric vehicles in all metropolitan regions with the company's Distribution Center. Seara is a pioneer in the adoption of electric refrigerated trucks, with vehicles already distributing products in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo and the Federal District.
Artifon also declares that, with the entry of new electric trucks, the brand makes it possible to renew the fleet and supports its partner hauler, without it being necessary for him to make the investment to transition to a low carbon fleet.
About electric vehicles
Electric vehicles have a number of advantages, such as reduced environmental impacts and low operating and maintenance costs. Consequently, there is a growing trend towards the adoption of electric trucks in the fleets of several companies.
This type of vehicle does not have, for example, an oil filter; air filter; fuel filter; straps; injection pump; exhaust system; injector nozzle; among other items that make the maintenance of a conventional car up to six times more expensive than that of an electric model.
Given the above, Seara has sought to diversify and expand the use of renewable energy sources for its operations. Under this bias, variations in the price of diesel, which is also more polluting, can contribute even more to the use of electric vehicles, as well as other alternative sources of fuel, such as the biodiesel and biomethane.
