According to information from the coordinator of the Southern Region of the National Airline Workers Union (SNA), Patrícia Gomes, more than a thousand workers have already been laid off across the country in a process that began last week.

According to the Union, there were layoffs in Vitória, Goiânia, Rio and Salvador, some of them by telephone. Patrícia also declared that with these measures the company will stop operating in 27 bases of small airports across the country.

Azul did not confirm the total number of layoffs and through a note declared that it continues to seek solutions to face the crisis caused by the new corona virus pandemic.

Azul informed that the covid-19 crisis has affected businesses around the world, especially airlines, and that, like all companies in the sector, it is seeking solutions to face the challenges, which include preserving the jobs of its crew members.

Azul has a voluntary resignation plan, but according to the president of the National Federation of Civil Aviation Workers, Sérgio Dias, the initiative is not being well received by employees and with that there may be occasional layoffs.

Azul had, before the pandemic, approximately 900 daily flights and today there are only 250 and even then on peak days. The company's forecast is to have in August only 35% of the operating capacity it had before the quarantine. The company is negotiating a loan with the BNDES to help it get through this turbulent time.
