With an increase in demand for electric cars, BYD plans to expand its plant in Camaçari, investing more in the Brazilian market.

The Chinese automaker BYD, specialized in electric cars, is preparing to expand its factory installation project in Camaçari, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS). The company's initial plant, designed to occupy 330 square meters and employ around 10 people, is expected to undergo significant expansion. In recent months, demand for BYD cars in Brazil has increased considerably. This growth in imports of electric cars has caused the company to reconsider its initial projections. Based on this new data, the automaker is close to confirming the expansion of its plant in Camaçari.

The Chinese automaker’s expectations for the market

According to the state secretary of Economic Development (SDE), Angelo Almeida (PSB), the expectation is that production of BYD cars will begin next year.

Almeida stated that the expansion of the plant has already been approved and that studies indicate the need to increase production capacity beyond what was initially planned.

“A BYD it is already a reality. By 2025, we should have cars produced in Bahia on the market. The news is that the company is considering expanding the project, which is a good sign. This demonstrates recognition of the growing demand and a commitment to the Brazilian market”, declared Almeida.

Secretary Almeida also highlighted the importance of electric cars for the future of the planet.

These cars, which use clean energy and do not depend on fossil fuels, are becoming increasingly relevant.

The trend is for the presence of electric cars on the streets of Brazilian cities to increase significantly.

The state government, under the leadership of Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT), sees the expansion of the BYD project positively.

The expansion is in line with the global trend towards adopting more sustainable technologies and could benefit the local economy by generating more jobs and stimulating regional development.

BYD investment and factory infrastructure

BYD began its operations in Camaçari in March 2024, after acquiring the infrastructure of the North American automaker Ford in the Industrial Pole.

The agreement involved an investment of R$300 million. Initially, the total investment for installing the factories in Camaçari was estimated at R$5,5 billion. With the planned expansion, this value should increase.

BYD's Camaçari plant will not only take advantage of Ford's former infrastructure, but also take over the benefits originally intended for the North American automaker.

The expansion of the project is seen as a strategic step, allowing the company to quickly adapt to growing demand and seize opportunities in the global market.

BYD's promising future in Brazil

The increase in sales of BYD electric cars in Brazil and the expansion plans for the plant in Camaçari reflect a significant change in the automotive market.

The company is not only responding to growing domestic demand, but also positioning itself to serve international markets.

The factory in Camaçari can serve as an export point for cars destined for several countries, both in Europe and Latin America.

BYD's strategy to expand its presence in Brazil is an indication of the company's confidence in the Brazilian market and its ability to meet the demand for more sustainable cars.

The plant expansion represents an opportunity to strengthen BYD's presence in Latin America and contribute to the transition to cleaner and more efficient transportation.
