The main point presented in the Strategic Plan is the promotion of the railway sector based on adequate logistics for mineral transport. Seplan and CBPM are awaiting Federal Government support for the project.

The mineral and railway market in Bahia seek the support of the Federal Government to boost it. The State Department of Planning (Seplan) and the Companhia Bahia de Pesquisa Mineral (CBPM) presented the Federal Government with a proposal for Strategic Plan for the rail sector. The objective is to boost the segment from mining, one of the largest markets in the state of Bahia, due to the high potential for mineral exploration.

Strategic Plan by Seplan and CBPM for the railway sector in Bahia seeks support from the Federal Government to boost transport infrastructure

Representatives of the state of Bahia are seeking this week the support of the Federal Government to boost the railway segment in the state over the next few years.

The secretary from Bahia, Cláudio Peixoto, together with Seplan's Strategic Planning superintendent, Ranieri Muricy, met with the special secretary of the federal government's Investment Partnership Program (PPI), Marcus Cavalcanti.

The meeting took place in Brasilia, during the National Forum of State Secretaries of Planning, and served for representatives from Bahia to present a new Strategic Plan for the railway sector.

The document was developed by Seplan in partnership with CBPM and Fundação Dom Cabral, aiming to boost the segment over the next few years, with the support of the Federal Government.

The document proposes the construction of new stretches of railroads, the modernization of existing ones and the integration of networks with ports and intermodal terminals. The objective is to expand and modernize the railway network in the region, which has great potential for transporting ores, grains and other cargo.

According to the organizations' Strategic Plan, the biggest challenge for the railway sector today is the lack of good logistics for operations. The state of Bahia is one of the largest mineral producers in the country.

With the development of new railways and the improvement of existing ones, the flow of products produced in the area can be increasingly efficient.

Thus, the support of the Federal Government is highly necessary for Seplan and CBPM with the new plan.

State Secretariat and CBPM believe that Lula's new term in the Federal Government can contribute to the adoption of the Strategic Plan developed

The Secretary of Planning, Cláudio Peixoto, commented that the arrival of a new team in the Federal Government could put Bahia back in the spotlight of investments in the railway sector.

“We are updating our long and medium-term planning instruments, which are the PDI — Bahia 2035 Integrated Development Plan and the PPA — Pluriannual Investment Plan (2024 – 2027) and this alignment of agendas and projects with the federal government is fundamental, especially in the area of rail infrastructure and other modes of transport for the development of the Bahian economy, making it more competitive and, therefore, attractive to investors,” he said.

In addition to building new railroads, the Seplan and CBPM document also proposes the integration of railroads with ports and intermodal terminals.

For this, works such as the construction of new railway branches, the expansion of maneuvering yards and the construction of new cargo terminals are planned.

The Strategic Plan for the railway sector in Bahia will now be evaluated by the Federal Government, which must define whether it will happen and when it will be possible.
