Announcement was given by Shell at the beginning of the week and exploration actions in the Campos Basin will start soon

Shell started drilling wildcat well 1-SHEL-35-RJS in block CM-659, located in the Campos Basin, according to information from the National Petroleum Agency, Natural gas and Biofuels (ANP). The operating well, called Suçuarana-1, is being drilled in a water depth of 2,9 meters.

According to the operating license issued by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), Shell will be able to drill up to six wells in the Campos Basin block, one firm well and five contingent wells. The license also authorizes the performance of up to four training tests on the CM-659.

The CM-659 well block in the Campos Basin was acquired in the 16th Bidding Round held in 2019 and is operated by the consortium formed by Shell (40%), Chevron (35%) and QatarEnergy (25%). The deadline for completing the exploratory phase is November 14, 2027.

Well to be explored by Shell in the Campos Basin was the only one so far

According to information from the ANP, so far, only this well has been drilled in the CM-659 block of the Campos Basin. As previously disclosed by PetróleoHoje, the well drilling campaign in the Campos Basin block will be conducted by the semi-submersible noble developer, from Maersk Drilling, which will also carry out intervention operations in wells at Parque das Conchas.

In the Campos Basin, Shell operates four blocks and five fields, including CM-659 (40%), CM-713 (40%), CM-757 (100%), CM-791 (40%), Abalone (50 %), Argonauta (50%) and Ostra (50%), which form the Parque das Conchas, in addition to Bijupirá (80%, currently in return) and Salema (80%).

In total, Shell has interests in 36 blocks in Brazil, including 19 in the Santos Basin, 10 in Barreirinhas, four in Campos and three in Potiguar. Regarding the fields under development, production and devolution, the company has a stake in 16 in the country, 11 in Santos and five in the Campos Basin.
