Many jobs for Bahia! Siemens closes billionaire contract to install 70 turbines in the wind farm Santo Agostinho – RN, owned by French Engie
Good news for Bahia, Siemens Gamesa (SG) took advantage of the recovery of the renewable market in Brazil and won its second major contract in the country in two months. The Siemens subsidiary will supply the French company Engie with 70 turbines of the 5.X model, which will be built at its factory in Camaçari – BA and could generate many jobs in the region. SG's first contract in Brazil was for the 312 MW tucano wind farm signed in April 2020.

The equipment will be deployed at the Santo Agostinho wind farm, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The energy complex will be capable of generating 434 MW.
The 5.X platform achieves one of the highest powers in the onshore wind segment thanks to its large rotors. The sum of these factors allows you to achieve “one of the most competitive energy costs on the market”, according to Siemens sources

The renewable group, which has an industrial deployment in Brazil, soon wins another major contract in that market. In December, he signed a supply contract for another 465 MW.
Both this project and Engie's, the energy produced will be sold through two electricity purchase and sale contracts (PPA) and will highlight the growth of wind energy in Brazil, despite the fact that there are no renewable energy auctions in the country in 2020.
PPAs provide a way for corporations to lock in an energy price and provide medium-term stability of their energy costs, at prices that are competitive compared to spot price forecasts.
The turbines will be manufactured at the Siemens factory in Bahia, and may generate jobs in the region
“This agreement underscores how attractive the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform is becoming globally, and we are pleased to continue to develop a close partnership with Engie in Brazil beyond that. The country is truly becoming a beacon for wind energy in Latin America,” said Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, CEO of Siemens Gamesa's Onshore business.
Siemens adds 1,21 GW contracts in Brazil with 5.X turbine. Globally there are 2,2 GW with the same model. A very significant volume in this industry and reached in less than two years since the commercial launch of the wind turbine.
And the most important thing is that Siemens Gamesa will build the new turbines in Brazil, at its factory in Camacari, in the State of Bahia, and can generate jobs in the region. Brazil ranks seventh in the world wind market. It has 17 GW of installed capacity.
