Solar Energy with solar panels Printed for just US$ 10 (approximately R$ 50 at current prices) per square meter, they can revolutionize Renewable Energy in the world. One Australian physicist maintains that the production of low-cost solar panels could transform and universalize access to renewable energy.

Professor Paul Dastoor from the University of Newcastle is responsible for this marvel, he employed printed organic solar cells to provide solar power to screens and monitors during an exhibition in Melbourne.

Solar panels are less than a millimeter thick and are attached with double-sided adhesive tape

The solar panels, which are less than a millimeter thick and are attached with double-sided adhesive tape, have a texture that resembles a bag of chips. They can be manufactured for less than US$10 (approximately R$50 at current prices) per square meter.

Dastoor has been dedicated to this technology for more than a decade and recently broke ground on a 200 square meter facility — the first commercial application of its kind in Australia, and possibly the world.

“It’s incredible how low cost and how quickly this technology can be implemented, especially as we urgently need solutions to reduce baseload power consumption — a concern that intensifies as we approach another summer here in Australia ”, commented the physicist.

An industrial-scale printer is capable of producing hundreds of meters of solar panel daily

Although printed solar board technology is not as efficient as silicon-based solar and degrades more quickly, Dastoor believes low production and installation costs could make it competitive.

The commercial installation was carried out by Kardinia Energy in just one day by a team of five employees, and an industrial-scale printer is capable of producing hundreds of meters of solar panel daily.
