The City Hall of Goiânia discussed solar energy solutions and other possibilities for energy distribution in a public hearing
The City Hall of Goiânia today held a public hearing on renewable energies and the popularization of electricity in the most remote rural areas through microgenerated solar energy.
During the audience, existing plans and possibilities for the future of the city were discussed, which, like most of Brazil, still does not use all of its solar energy generation.

Representatives of the government, the Federal University of Goiás and the private sector were heard. This public hearing could be the first step towards a Goiânia that better explores its renewable energy potential and that enables the distribution of energy in more remote and isolated districts.

The importance of distributing energy to remote communities and citizens
“It so happens that, in the middle of 2021, with all the technology available, many rural families still live in the dark. Electricity is a public good that deserves to be taken to the entire Brazilian population. Energy brings benefits, from access to information, to economic change for families and localities, with repercussions on health, education and the quality of life of the population. Ultimately, far beyond energy, we are talking about bringing dignity to a range of Brazilians not yet assisted by this public good” said councilor Mauro Rubem, who proposed the public hearing, in his speech.
The following took part in the discussion in person at a distance: Naiane Brito, an energy engineer from the University of Brasília, with 10 years of experience in the electricity sector and specialist in energy and regulation at Lemon Energia; João Carlos Moreno, specialist in consulting for the implementation of photovoltaic plants; Professor Fernando Nunes Belchior, from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Federal University of Goiás; among other government officials and subject matter experts.
Professor Fernando Nunes Belchior showed that the UFG already moving towards renewable energy. According to him, the generation of photovoltaic energy saves the university 4,6 million reais per year
Eliomar Pedrosa, representative of the Union of Urban Planners of the State of Goiás, pointed to something that, according to him, needs to be put into perspective. According to him, strategic government intervention in renewable energy actions is important, without transferring the responsibility for energy generation to the consumer alone: “This is selling the illusion of a green, sustainable and autonomous capitalism”.
The main point of convergence among all specialists was the need for the State to act in the generation of renewable energy, favoring the diversity of energy sources for a strong electrical matrix and encouraging the generation of shared energy.
