St. Johns Ship Building delivers first of three wind farm hybrid crew transfer vessels.

the shipyard St Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Florida, has just announced that it has delivered WINDEA Courageous, the first of three Jones Act compliant crew transfer vessels (CTV) ordered by WINDEA CTV, a Hornblower Wind partnership wind industry.

The 30-meter-long WINDEA Courageous and her sister ships were designed by Incat Crowther and each has the capacity to carry 24 technicians, as well as six crew. O St. Johns Ship Building is known for its high-quality and efficient vessels, and the WINDEA Courageous certainly leaves nothing to be desired in this regard.

St Johns Ship Building and its new focus on aluminum

Newbuilds will enter service supporting GE Renewables at Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm located 24 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. WINDEA Courageous is already on site in New Bedford, Massachusetts, supporting construction of the project.

For St Johns Ship Building, the construction of this CTV series signals the official launch of its new focus on dedicated aluminum high-speed ship production, the company said. St Johns Ship Building, in recent years, has made several facility modifications and acquired new production equipment in an effort to prepare for building vessels to support the emerging wind industry US offshore.

‘This delivery is a source of pride. moment of validation,’ said Ed Sheets, executive vice president and director of business strategy at Americraft Marine Group, parent company of St Johns Ship Building. 'WINDEA Courageous is a landmark vessel for St Johns Ship Building and marks the first measurable achievement in what has been a two-year effort to convert the facility and its talented, hard-working staff from a history of building primarily steel ships , for building advanced-design, high-speed aluminum vessels. To say that we are simply proud of the achievement does not do justice to the hard work and sacrifice of the SJSB team. They have all risen to the many challenges we face during this transition and, at the same time, raised the bar in this very segment of the industry.’

‘St. John’s Ship Building has achieved a significant milestone with the successful construction and delivery of this WINDEA CTV LLC crew transfer vessel. Their dedicated efforts and expertise ensured the project was completed with precision and adherence to quality standards,' said Junior Volpe, senior vice president of vessel construction and repair at Hornblower Group.'
