After 12 years of waiting, the state government of Rio de Janeiro announced the opening of a new public competition for the position of inspector of criminal police, linked to State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap).

The last selection was carried out more than a decade ago, and this new opportunity arises as a response to the growing demand for reinforcement in work prison.

The notice was published this Wednesday, November 6, in the Official Gazette, providing details about the selection process, requirements and contributions.

contest details

According to the notice, 300 immediate vacancies will be offered for the position of Penal Police Inspector. This is a position that requires a completed higher education degree in any field of study, and stands out for its attractive initial salary proposal and specific work regime. The main points include:

  • Starting salary : R$ 6.128,29, with the addition of a Professional Appreciation Bonus (GVP) in the amount of R$ 1.119,29.
  • Workload : 40 hours per week, which may be on-call on a 24-hour work schedule followed by 72 hours of rest.

In addition to the 300 immediate vacancies, the notice also provides for the creation of a reserve list, intended for possible future calls, according to the state's needs and budget availability.

Registration will be open from November 11th to December 12th, offering candidates adequate time to prepare their documentation and carry out the necessary procedures.

Challenges and duties of the role

Currently, Seap is responsible for the custody of more than 43 thousand people deprived of liberty, distributed across 50 prison units in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Seap's responsibilities include controlling access to these units, resocializing inmates and electronically monitoring more than eight thousand individuals under house arrest.

The role of a Penal Police Inspector, therefore, is of great relevance to public safety and the criminal justice system, acting in the inspection and control of these environments.

According to Governor Cláudio Castro, the new hiring of inspectors represents an important strategy to strengthen the prison system. “The arrival of 300 new inspectors will allow Seap to intensify, mainly, inspections at the doors of prison units throughout the state, expanding the fight against the entry of illicit items, such as drugs and cell phones.”, said the governor.

With this, the government seeks to combat illegal activities that often involve the use of electronic devices and prohibited substances within prison units.

Relevance of the competition for public safety

The selection process for Penal Police inspector is a response to the growing demand for staff reinforcement in the penitentiary system. In a context where public safety is a constant priority, the state of Rio de Janeiro seeks to strengthen the Penal Police and ensure the integrity of the prison environment.

The new hires are seen as a preventive measure, which not only aims to increase surveillance, but also to maintain a functional structure within the prison units.

According to the State Secretary of Penitentiary Administration, Maria Rosa Lo Duca Nebel, this competition marks a new phase for the Penal Police and represents a unique opportunity for those who wish to build a solid career in public security.

Career opportunity

For those seeking a stable career focused on public safety, the position of Penal Police Inspector offers a promising opportunity. In addition to the competitive starting salary, the position provides a fundamental role in the defense of society and in the administration of prison units.

Candidates who wish to enter this sector will have the chance to contribute to improving public safety in the state and develop a path of professional growth.
