The Contestado Highway project foresees the paving of 110 km and may receive an investment of R$400 million to boost the regional economy.
The Contestado Highway project foresees the paving of 110 km and may receive an investment of R$400 million to boost the regional economy.

A new 110 km highway could be built between Caçador and Canoinhas, reducing distances and benefiting cities such as Timbó Grande and Calmon. The project, estimated at R$400 million, includes paving the SC-459 and SC-120 highways, as well as improving the region's transportation and economic infrastructure. The initiative already has R$1,5 million guaranteed for the initial development of the project.

Road infrastructure plays an essential role in economic development and the population's quality of life.

However, the lack of adequate paved roads is still a challenge for many regions, directly impacting the transportation of goods, the mobility of residents and the growth of several productive sectors.

Given this scenario, a new highway proposal promises to boost the economy and transform connectivity between strategic municipalities.

The so-called Contestado Highway could receive an estimated investment of R$400 million for its implementation, connecting the cities of Caçador and Canoinhas, passing through Timbó Grande and Calmon.

The project, which involves paving existing roads, was recently presented by the Caçador Business Association, bringing together business and political leaders from the region.

The proposal aims to reduce distances, improve the flow of production and promote local economic development.

Division into stages ensures progressive progress

The construction of the Contestado Highway is planned to take place in two stages. The first of these covers a stretch of 43 km between Caçador and Timbó Grande, passing through Calmon.

Currently, the paved connection between these municipalities adds up 142 km, but with the new route, the distance traveled would drop to 60 km.

The route proposed in this first phase involves paving sections of the SC-459 and municipal roads already existing.

This would bring direct benefits to local mobility and the agricultural sector, which uses these routes to transport products.

The second stage of the project involves paving the stretch of 66 km between Timbó Grande and Canoinhas, using the SC-120 as a base.

The proposal seeks not only to facilitate vehicle traffic, but also to improve the socioeconomic development indicators of the surrounding cities, such as Timbó Grande, Calmon, Lebon Régis, Matos Costa and Bela Vista do Toldo.

Cost estimation and funding sources

According to the studies presented, the estimated total cost of the work is around R $ million 400, being R$ 387 million earmarked for paving 110 km e R$ 7 million for the engineering project.

A parliamentary amendment of R $ 1,5 million, authored by federal deputy Valdir Cobalchini (MDB), has already been allocated to finance the development of the project in one of the stages.

Additionally, we bring the state government will be approached to assess the viability of the work and possible sources of funding.

Impact on regional development

The construction of the Contestado Highway could represent a milestone for the region's infrastructure, directly benefiting sectors such as agriculture, industry and commerce.

The logistical flow of goods will be optimized, reducing costs and travel time, in addition to attracting investments to the municipalities crossed by the road.

Furthermore, improvements in road infrastructure will also impact the mobility of residents, providing more safety and comfort for those who depend on these roads on a daily basis, whether for personal or professional travel.

The mobilization to make the project viable continues to advance, with the active participation of business and political leaders.

The next step will be to seek government support and carry out more detailed technical studies to consolidate the initiative.

Challenges and next steps for the new highway

Although the Contestado Highway project is promising, some challenges need to be overcome before the project can be implemented.

According to experts, raising funds is one of the main obstacles, as the economic viability of the highway depends on the commitment of the state government and the search for partnerships with the private sector.

Furthermore, environmental and territorial impact issues will need to be analyzed, ensuring that the work is carried out in a sustainable manner.

Another relevant point is the execution cronogram, which has not yet been defined in a concrete way.

Detailed technical studies will be essential to establish efficient planning, predicting realistic deadlines for each phase of paving and minimizing negative impacts on the routine of the cities involved.

The expectation is that, with the mobilization of leaders and the involvement of different government spheres, the project will advance beyond the study phase and become a reality that benefits the entire region.

Very good. After it's done, privatize it and put a political ally in charge of collecting nickels from the tolls.
