Statoil has just extracted the first oil and Carcará

Contracting of services and equipment for the development project begins in 2019, Statoil declares the asset to be commercially available

Statoil mark first caracara oil and hit the hammer on the date of the first oil, pre-salt area located in deep waters of the Santos Basin. The asset operated by the Norwegian oil company will start operating between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Contracting services and equipment for the development project will start in 2019.

The plan is to install an FPSO in the area, with a capacity of over 100 barrels/day of oil. The exact size of the unit and the number of wells in the system have not been defined. Studies carried out at the moment are evaluating the possibility of installing an FPSO from 120 thousand barrels/day to 180 thousand barrels/day of oil. Statoil estimates that the asset has a recoverable volume of around 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Once the test is completed in the existing well, the rig will be relocated to the Guanxuma prospect, where a new exploratory well will be drilled, which should take three to four months. Carcará has already drilled three exploratory wells and the trend is for more wells to be drilled by 2019, moving the oil and gas market in Brazil. Source: MSO Consulting Brazil
