Section of PB-394 is destroyed after flooding in Sertão da Paraíba; highway, still under construction, connects BR-230 to the district of Engenheiro Ávidos and is completely closed
Heavy rains hit the Sertão da Paraíba on Sunday (13) and caused the rupture of a section of the PB-394 road, still in construction. The highway provides access to the district of Engenheiro Ávidos, in Cajazeiras, and was completely closed after the waters of a stream invaded the area.
According to local residents, such as councilman Alysson Lira, traffic was allowed to reopen for a few hours, but was interrupted again in the early hours of Monday (14). The affected section is close to the Cochos site, also used as access to the Engenheiro Ávidos Reservoir.
The construction site was still in the final stages. The pipe system used to drain the water could not withstand the volume of rain, and the force of the flood destroyed part of the road. Videos and photos posted on social media show the road with large craters, preventing vehicles from passing.

The PB-394 road connects the BR-230 to the district and is considered an important route for residents of the region. The paving works, which cover 14,1 kilometers, were resumed at the end of 2024, with an investment of over R$25 million.
The rupture of the stretch reinforces concerns about the quality of the work and its resistance to heavy rains, which have been more intense in the Semiarid region. So far, the Paraíba Highway Department (DER-PB) has not made an official statement on the case.
The community is still waiting for a response and for access to be restored, which remains closed.
