Want to get an undergraduate, postgraduate, master's or doctorate degree for free? The MEC has launched a platform with 100% free courses for teachers! Limited vacancies and open registration. See how to guarantee your training right now!

O the Ministry of Education (MEC): launched the Mais Professores portal, an innovative platform that offers free undergraduate, postgraduate, master's and doctoral courses for teachers throughout Brazil.

The project is part of the Mais Professores para o Brasil program, an initiative aimed at valuing and qualifying basic education professionals, in addition to encouraging teaching in the country.

The platform brings together a variety of training courses, both in-person and online, including degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, History, Geography and Pedagogy, as well as specializations in Teaching Natural Sciences, Active Methodologies for Basic Education, School Management, Pedagogical Coordination, Inclusive Education, Institutional Psychopedagogy, Educational Technologies and Innovation in Teaching.

For teachers who wish to delve even deeper, the platform offers a professional master's degree in Science Teaching and Mathematics Education, as well as a doctorate in Education and New Technologies and in Public Policies for Basic Education.

The MEC also provides exclusive content in the MEC Virtual Learning Environment (Avamec) and on the Learn More platform.

On these platforms, teachers find short-term training courses that complement their education and expand their knowledge.

The relevance of the initiative

According to data from the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP), 33% of basic education teachers in Brazil do not have adequate training for the subject they teach.

This scenario motivated the creation of the Mais Professores portal, which centralizes all training opportunities in a single space, facilitating teachers' access to free courses offered in partnership with public universities and education departments.

With this measure, the federal government seeks to improve the quality of education in the country, providing educators with continuous opportunities for improvement and qualification.

Furthermore, the platform helps teachers in public and private schools to expand their knowledge and stay up to date with the latest teaching methodologies.

The lack of qualified teachers directly impacts student performance and the quality of education offered in schools.

Therefore, the MEC initiative could represent a significant advance in reducing this structural problem, promoting greater equity in access to quality education.

Selection Criteria

The criteria for participation in the courses vary depending on the chosen modality:

  • Undergrad: candidates must meet the requirements of the offering institution and, in some cases, go through a selection process.
  • Postgraduate, Master's and Doctorate: selection may include CV analysis, interview and evaluation of research projects.

Some training courses are exclusive to public school teachers, while others are open to all education professionals.

To financially support teachers who wish to continue their studies, the program offers the More Teachers for Brazil Grant, an aid that aims to ensure that teachers can qualify without compromising their income.

This scholarship can be a decisive factor for many teachers who face financial difficulties and are unable to invest in continuing education.

The benefit reinforces the importance of valuing the teaching profession and ensuring that professionals have the conditions to improve their knowledge without compromising their economic stability.

Expected impact on Brazilian education

The expectation is that the Mais Professores platform will help reduce the lack of specific training among basic education teachers.

The provision of free and accessible courses seeks to encourage improvements in the quality of education in Brazil, directly benefiting thousands of students who depend on qualified and up-to-date education.

Furthermore, centralizing training opportunities makes it easier for teachers to find courses that meet their needs and areas of interest.

The initiative also reinforces the importance of continuing education, essential for keeping up with changes in the educational scenario and adopting new teaching methodologies.

Strengthening the teaching profession and training teachers impacts not only the quality of education, but also the appreciation of the profession.

With more qualification opportunities, it is expected that more teachers will feel motivated to remain in the field, contributing to the reduction of teacher dropout and the improvement of the educational system as a whole.
