The dream of room temperature superconductivity closer than ever?
You know that story about it seems too good to be true? Well, the scientific world experienced something like this with the LK-99, a possible superconductor the ambient temperature which, if confirmed, could be a real “goal” in tech.
A superconductivity, which allows lossless energy transfer, clean energy, is one of those subjects that makes anyone's eyes widen. Just imagine, clean and cheap energy for the entire planet!
Superconductors: the stars of energy efficiency
Superconductors are nothing new, they are already used in magnetic levitation trains and in MRI machines, but the catch is that they need freezing temperatures to work. And then comes the LK-99, which promised to change this game, but did it deliver what it promised?

News of LK-99 traveled faster than bad news, but, as with many scientific discoveries, the path to confirmation is full of holes. In the past, we have had announcements of room temperature superconductors that ended up not being confirmed, often marred by accusations of academic dishonesty. And with the LK-99, it was no different.
The LK-99, between hope and distrust
O LK-99 even showed some interesting properties, but, until now, it has not been confirmed as a true superconductor. The research is still ongoing, and laboratories around the world are trying to replicate the results. But for now, the LK-99 is more “almost there” than technological revolution.
While the LK-99 has yet to decide, high-temperature superconductors are already making a difference in places like Seoul, South Korea. They still need cold, but nothing compared to the extreme temperatures of traditional superconductors. This technology is already helping to deal with growing energy demand in dense urban areas.
Even Sérgio Sacani took some time to talk about the LK-99, see below.
The transformative potential of superconductors
The truth is that superconductivity has gigantic potential, Being able to transport energy without losses over long distances would be a game changer. Just imagine, solar energy from Africa and Europe being used in the Americas and vice versa. It would be a revolution in the way we deal with renewable energy and in our fight against climate change.
O LK-99 is still not the hero we expected, but the search continues, science is like that, full of ups and downs, but always moving forward. And who knows, maybe the next big announcement be the home run we've been waiting for. For now, we're still cheering and keeping an eye on the future!
