With the arrival of the new Lula Government approaching in the coming weeks, discussions about the future of Petrobras continue at full steam this Monday, (26/12). The main concern today is who will run the state administration in the new government. Jean Paul Prates, senator from Rio Grande do Norte at the end of his term, is one of the main names to become the company's president, due to his experience and expertise in the fuel sector.

Presidency and administration of Petrobras may be directed to the current senator Jean Paul Prates in the new Lula Government, after support from parliamentarians

This past Wednesday (21/12), Senator Jean Paul Prates gave a farewell speech which, due to the participation of his political colleagues, turned out to be a great gesture of support for the executive as the next president of Petrobras.

The senator's name has been quoted for a few months for the state's administration, after a long and constant change of presidents in the company throughout the year 2022. Jean became one of the main names for the position, due to his experience in the oil and gas segment, since the Lula government has already stated that it is looking for a president who understands oil.

Thus, during his speech, he was interrupted by his colleagues and praised for his mandate, in addition to reinforcing that he is a great indication for the position of Petrobras' management.

PT Paulo Paim (RS) said he trusts that the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), should call Prates to head a ministry or Petrobras. Jorge Kajuru (Podemos-GO) joked that he would be angry if the Lula government did not call the senator to the presidency of the state-owned company, since he would be the best option for the command.

Another who joined in was Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), who highlighted Prates' deep knowledge of the oil and gas sector. Despite being quoted for the position of president, the senator was being impeded by the State-owned Law, which required a three-year quarantine for political agents.

However, with that part suppressed in the amendment made by Congress last week, the whole scenario collaborates for Jean Paul Prates to become the administrator and president of Petrobras.

The senator played a leading role in the regulatory framework for offshore wind farms and understands the energy market, being a great option for the presidency of the state-owned company

Senator Prates is quoted for the presidency of Petrobras for being one of the parliamentarians who played a leading role in the regulatory framework for offshore wind energy generation.

He has been fighting and contributing to implement new renewable energy projects across Brazil for some years now. In this way, the Lula government will be able to take advantage of its experience and relevance to bring Petrobras a new focus on the energy market.

The current senator also participated in the former Petrobras Internacional (Braspetro), in the 1980s, and participated in the elaboration of the Petroleum Law, in 1997. Besides being one of the main names for the presidency regarding the administration's bias, he is also widely spoken of boost renewable energy projects in Brazil after taking over the state-owned company.

Now, all that remains is to wait for the Lula Government to make a decision next year.
