UFJF is opening registrations for 379 places on distance learning undergraduate courses in various areas, with opportunities for students and teachers from the public school system; find out how to apply.
The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) has just opened registration for the selection process for distance learning undergraduate courses. In total, there are 379 free vacancies for undergraduate courses, distributed across six different areas. The courses, offered in partnership with the Open University of Brazil (UAB), are available at support centers in several cities in Minas Gerais, allowing students from various regions to have access to higher education with flexibility.
These vacancies represent a great opportunity for those looking to start a degree, especially for those who prefer distance learning. Thus, there is a percentage of vacancies specially reserved for teachers in the public education system who do not yet have higher education or who do not have a diploma in the area in which they work.
Structure of the selection process and benefits of distance learning
The UFJF selection process was structured to include two groups of candidates. The first group is open to the general public, who compete based on their average grades in Portuguese and Math from high school, and must present their academic transcripts. This method represents 80% of the total vacancies. The second group, equivalent to the remaining 20%, is aimed at teachers working in the public school system who do not yet have higher education or who need specific training to work in their teaching area. These teachers must prove their connection to the school system and be registered on the Freire Platform.

Distance learning is a strategic choice by UFJF to reach a larger audience and promote inclusion in higher education. The courses include online classes, which students can attend at home, and mandatory in-person activities at support centers located in cities in Minas Gerais. This configuration makes education more accessible to students from different locations.
Available courses and centers
The free undergraduate courses offered by UFJF are all aimed at undergraduate degrees, and the places are divided between the following courses and support centers:
- Degree in Computing
- Degree in Mathematics
- Chemistry graduation
- Degree in Physics
- Degree in Physical Education
- Degree in Pedagogy
The in-person support centers, where mandatory activities will take place, are located in the following cities:
Northeast, Southeast ...
This structure with centers distributed across several regions facilitates access for students from different locations, who do not need to travel to the main UFJF campus to follow the course.
How the selection process works
To apply for the selection process, candidates must choose the support center where they will carry out in-person activities and choose one of the admission methods. The process is quite inclusive, and candidates from the group designated for public school teachers have priority in the event of a tie based on length of service. If the tie persists, the tiebreaker criterion will be age.
The application fee of R$150 is required for all candidates, except those who request and have their exemption approved. To request the exemption, it is necessary to make the request at the time of registration, between October 14th and 18th. The result of the exemption will be published on October 25th on the website of the General Coordination of Selection Processes (Copese), and those who have their request denied must pay the fee to confirm their participation in the process.
