Pre-salt projects arouse the interest of Ocyan and the company that expands its portfolio, being able to build platforms of up to 150 barrels of oil per day for companies like Petrobras

Ocyan is preparing to manage new business in pre-salt oil fields and is eyeing contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to build platforms for customers like Petrobras to operate in deep waters, since the state-owned company is maintaining the focus on offshore and divestment of onshore assets.

According to the CEO of Ocyan Roberto Bischoff, in a videoconference interview, the offshore oil industry supplier intends to get involved in Petrobras tenders to produce units with an average processing capacity of up to 150.000 barrels per day.

Even with the coronavirus pandemic and recurring drops in oil prices, Bischoff says that the pre-salt oil and gas fields operated by Petrobras guarantee greater security for long-term projects.

Other projects that are in the sights of Ocyan are offering maintenance work for vessels and operating vessels for other clients, such as Enauta.

Ocyan's new business features a return of the company to the market

In 2014, when the revelations of the Lava Jato corruption scandal began, culminating in the arrest of the president of Odebrecht, Petrobras temporarily blocked Ocyan (known as Odebrecht Oil and Gas until 2018), which was suspended to sign new contracts.

After restrictions were dropped, the company won its first contract with Petrobras in 2019 for a drilling rig for Brazilian pre-salt waters.

Oil platform construction work for Petrobras in Brazil

The vast majority of Petrobras platforms are currently being built in shipyards in China, Singapore and other Asian countries. Brazil spent almost the entire last decade without new contracts to build units in the national territory.

However, the announcement by the state-owned company to charter 3 FPSO (Floating Storage and Transfer Unit) platforms to Campo de Búzios, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, left the national shipbuilding on alert.

According to state-owned executives in a webinar with analysts, the resumption of platform construction in Brazil is possible, but the location of the works will be decided by the companies that win the contracts.
