Companies and scientists are developing renewable energy projects that can be up to 10 times more powerful than solar and wind energy. Discover the energy of the seas.

Renewable energy sources are one of the best ways to produce electricity, however, there is a single major obstacle faced in sources such as solar and wind energy, which is intermittency. A renewable energy it cannot be produced whenever needed as, for example, solar energy cannot be generated overnight. However, a method was discovered to produce sustainable energy without interruption: The energy of the seas, which is making several companies and specialists in the sector excited, considering that it can be up to 10X superior to solar energy.

Wind power and solar power may be outdated

THE AMAZING Energy That Can Be 10X Better Than Solar Energy | Tidal energy

A solar and wind energy are great ways to generate renewable energy, being relatively cheap and without causing pollution, unlike plants that run on fossil fuels, which emit CO2 into the atmosphere. Solar and wind energy would never run out in less than a billion years, however, renewable energy from these sources has several disadvantages, and can be affected by daily environmental cycles that can reduce their efficiency, given that these sources cannot always generate energy during the day.

Having these obstacles, companies are investing in sea energy, which is a renewable energy that does not cause any damage to the environment and can be used for 24 hours, solving the problem of intermittency.

The energy of the seas is generated by the waves of ocean waters during the rise and fall of the tide. Some lakes and rivers can also have these tides. The engineers of this technology take advantage of the phenomenon generated by the moon over the earth's waters and the main trick is through kinetic energy generated by the rise and fall of the tides, transformed into electricity.

Types of marine energy projects

The greater the amplitude of the tides or the difference in sea height between high tide and low tide, the greater the generation of renewable energy.

To develop a functional marine energy project, engineers can choose between three types, the first being through the tidal turbine, which is very simple and very similar to wind turbines. These are placed below the surface of the water so that the current pushes the propellers, and can generate much more renewable energy than solar or wind power plants.

The second type of project is the tidal dams, built in coves or estuaries, similar to hydroelectric dams, considering that floodgates are used to form a reservoir on one side of the dam.

Finally, the last type of project is the tidal fences, which works as a combination of the first two projects, with vertical curves in its helices that have a fence to concentrate water.

Suitable locations for marine energy projects

The fact is that, despite water covering two-thirds of the planet's surface, not all locations are suitable for receiving this type of project.

Localities must meet some specific requirements for projects to become viable. Tsunamis and tornadoes should also be avoided, as these can be destructive to projects.

Furthermore, the project to generate renewable energy through the waves should also not affect the passage of ships and cargo vessels, bearing in mind that it could affect the economy of the region where it is installed.
