Petrobras plans to expand its operations in the petrochemical area after the change of government.
The decision of Petrobras in relation to its 36,1% stake in Braskem will have an impact on the possibility of a future petrochemical project at Polo Gaslub, in itaboraí (RJ), according to directors of the state-owned company. Petrobras' partner company at Braskem, Novonor, received a new offer from Adnoc, a state-owned company in the United Arab Emirates, which is willing to pay R$10,5 billion for Novonor's 38,3% stake, leaving Petrobras with a 3% stake.
Conditions of Petrobras' non-binding offer to Braskem
The non-binding offer from Petrobras to Braskem presents several conditions, the most important being the right of preference of the Petrobras in the event of sale or expansion of participation in Braskem. The financial and investor relations director, Sérgio Caethane Leite, highlighted that negotiations are ongoing between Novonor e Adnoc, and the development of this area can happen independently of the participation of Petrobras na Braskem.
