The Pará state agency issued the necessary environmental license for Petrobras to carry out a simulation that could start exploring the Equatorial Margin. The state-owned company continues to discuss some points with Ibama to proceed with the project in the area.
The state-owned oil company Petrobras confirmed that the Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability of Pará granted the necessary environmental license for the company to proceed with the project exploration of the Equatorial Margin. The document for carrying out a simulation in the state is another step towards the initiative. The state company foresees investments of US$ 2,9 billion in the production campaign in the region.
Petrobras obtains a new environmental license from the Government of Pará and advances in the exploration project for the new Brazilian pre-salt layer, the Equatorial Margin
Petrobras announced the receipt of the environmental license required by the Secretariat of the Environment and Sustainability of Pará to carry out a simulation in the state.
The company's objective is to speed up the processes to start the Equatorial Margin exploration project, starting in Amapá and going to the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
- No soy or sugarcane! Brazil's largest exported product is oil, to the delight of Petrobras and other companies in the sector.
- From pre-salt to the largest gas reserve: Petrobras discovers 6 trillion cubic feet of gas in Colombia and leads global energy revolution
- The impressive numbers from the 10 oil platforms with the HIGHEST production in October: More than 2 million barrels per day in the spotlight in the pre-salt!
- Brazil to auction 78 MILLION barrels of oil! China took the majority in the last auction
With investments of US$ 2,9 billion planned for the coming years, the oil company's campaign in the new Brazilian pre-salt layer could be one of the largest in the national oil and natural gas market.
With the receipt of the new environmental license, the company is now discussing just a few more details of the project with the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for the start of work.
The environmental license granted by the Government of Pará will serve for the operation of the Fauna Recovery and Depetrolization Center (CRD), built in Icoaraci. The plant will be responsible for monitoring Petrobras' operations in the region's exploration campaign.
In addition, it will also serve to ensure environmental safety in the drilling the so-called Poço Morpho, located about 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá and at a depth of 2.880 meters.
This is because the center will ensure care for animals that may be injured or affected by Petrobras' operations in the region. This is the first pit which must be operated by the company, if the simulation makes it possible to explore the Equatorial Margin.
New Brazilian pre-salt, region of the Equatorial Margin, is the big bet of the state-owned company for the exploration of fuels in Brazil
Receiving the environmental license for the simulation in Pará is just one step in Petrobras' exploration campaign on the Equatorial Margin.
The region is pointed out by specialists in the sector as one of the great bets for the production of fuels on a large scale in Brazil over the next few years.
The president of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), Roberto Ardenghy, stated: “To get an idea, out of every ten wells drilled in the world, nine, in general, are considered sub-commercial, that is, they cannot be commercially exploited. In others, oil is not even found. Often, only water or CO2 (carbon dioxide) is found.”
“In any case, it is widely believed that oil exploration on the so-called Equatorial Margin will be possible, not least because other wells have already been found in the region, in areas belonging to Guyana, for example, which has grown a lot thanks to this activity”, finished the executive.
Thus, Petrobras' exploration campaign on the Equatorial Margin may enable strong investments in the Brazilian oil and gas market in the coming years.
