New radars are now in operation in the interior of São Paulo. Find out where they are and how they impact highway safety.

EcoNoroeste announces new radars on three highways in the interior of São Paulo. Starting January 29, the equipment will go into operation to increase safety and reduce accidents.

Get ready for significant changes on highways in the interior of São Paulo.

New radars, ready to monitor the roads, will come into operation this month, promising to transform traffic and, mainly, reinforce the safety of those who travel along important roads in the state.

But which cities will be impacted? And what is behind this strategic decision? Find out the details now.

Three new radars in operation

Starting Wednesday, January 29, 2025, three new radars will begin operating on highways under concession by EcoNoroeste, as published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo on the 22nd.

The specific points of the facilities are as follows:

  • Washington Luis Highway (SP-310): at kilometer 275+130m, southbound, between Araraquara and São Carlos. Maximum permitted speed: 110 km/h for light vehicles and 90 km/h for heavy vehicles.
  • Brigadier Faria Lima Highway (SP-326): at kilometer 369+340m, heading north, between Taiúva and Bebedouro. Maximum permitted speed: 110 km/h for light vehicles and 90 km/h for heavy vehicles.
  • Carlos Tonanni Highway (SP-333): at kilometer 85+860m, eastbound, between Jaboticabal and Sertãozinho. Maximum permitted speed: 110 km/h for light vehicles and 90 km/h for heavy vehicles.

These new radars are part of a larger strategy that involves the installation of 45 pieces of equipment in several sections managed by EcoNoroeste.

The project was approved by the São Paulo State Transport Agency (ARTESP) and the Department of Highways (DER-SP), focusing on points considered critical for road safety.

Objective: save lives and reduce accidents

Radars are not just surveillance tools, but part of an initiative to save lives.

Data provided by EcoNoroeste shows that, in 2024, there was a reduction of 29% in gravity e 19% in fatality of accidents on the highways under its administration.

In the last quarter of the year, fatal accidents decreased 57%, a result attributed to the installation of control equipment and driver awareness.

According to road safety experts, speeding is one of the main causes of serious accidents on the roads.

The installation of new radars aims to prevent this behavior, in addition to increasing the feeling of safety among highway users.

How do radars operate?

Although EcoNoroeste is responsible for installing and maintaining the equipment, processing infractions and applying fines are the responsibility of DER-SP.

The dealership follows a strict approval schedule, which includes the publication of active radars in the Official Gazette.

In addition, EcoNoroeste carries out extensive publicity to inform drivers about the new inspection points.

Signs, banners and Variable Message Panels (VMPs) are installed before each radar is activated, ensuring that all users are properly alerted.

A radar every 10 kilometers

The EcoNoroeste project foresees a radar every 10 kilometers of road, covering 17 municipalities in the interior of São Paulo.

The cities affected include:

According to the concessionaire, the choice of locations for installing the equipment was based on a study that identified areas with a higher incidence of serious accidents.

These points underwent technical validation by ARTESP and DER-SP before being approved for installation.

Impacts for drivers

With the activation of the new radars, drivers need to pay extra attention to the permitted speeds, which vary depending on the type of vehicle and the section of the highway.

In addition to avoiding fines, respecting speed limits directly contributes to the safety of everyone who uses the roads.

“Our goal is not just to monitor, but to create a culture of responsibility in traffic,” said a spokesperson for EcoNoroeste.

According to him, the presence of radars has proven effective not only in reducing accidents, but also in raising awareness among drivers about the risks of disregarding traffic rules.

Positive results in 2024

The numbers speak for themselves. In 2024, the radars installed on highways under concession by EcoNoroeste contributed significantly to the reduction of fatal accidents.

This trend reinforces the importance of continuing to invest in infrastructure and technologies that promote road safety.

Furthermore, the initiative demonstrates the concessionaire's commitment to fulfilling the obligations established in the concession contract with the Government of the State of São Paulo.

Each new radar installed represents another step towards building safer and more efficient highways.

How to keep up with the latest news

To keep users informed, EcoNoroeste uses its social networks and official website as its main communication channels.

In these spaces, you can check the complete list of radars in operation, as well as information on speed limits and traffic safety tips.

If you are a driver and use the aforementioned highways, pay attention to the signs and respect the speed limits. Road safety starts with each one of us!
