Carbonor, a chemical company, currently the largest manufacturer of sodium bicarbonate in Latin America, inaugurated a new unit in the Industrial Complex of Camaçari, Bahia. Amid the pandemic, there is a millionaire investment in the state: New Biodiesel plant authorized by the state government will generate over a thousand jobs

The new industrial hub has an annual production capacity of 27 tons of carbon dioxide, 30 tons of calcium oxide or 34 tons of hydrated lime.

The new unit guarantees the largest producer of sodium bicarbonate in Latin America, a total independence of external supply of raw material carbon dioxide, in which the company depended on the supply coming from the old Fafen.

The expansion of the new Carbonor Industrial Complex increased its production capacity by 75%, in addition to generating 100 new jobs for professionals in the region. In all, the center generated around 600 job opportunities, of which 150 were direct and 450 were indirect.

The new Polo Industrial Camaçari, Bahia has already produced in its first month of operation 750 tons of carbon dioxide and 800 tons of calcium oxide.

According to the company's president, Paulo Sérgio França Cavalcanti, "the expectation is to produce, in the first year, 18 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, which will be consumed within the company to manufacture sodium bicarbonate, in addition to 20 thousand tons of calcium oxide, which will be offered to the market".

According to the executive, Carbonor is already planning to add a second oven to the new unit. The expectation is that the company will double its efficiency with the new project, reaching a production capacity of 54 tons of carbon dioxide, 60 of calcium oxide or 64 of hydrated lime, also offering carbon dioxide to the market, in addition to adding value to lime, starting to supply hydrated lime.

The new Carbonor factory at the Camaçari Complex in Bahia stands out for its environmental sustainability. The unit will produce 100% of its thermal energy from biomass and/or other renewable sources, which represents a reduction of more than 75% in the use of fossil fuels in the production process, qualifying the company as a “Green Enterprise”, in addition to making it an available source of pure lime for neighboring industries in the Camaçari Complex.
