The new transformers, in addition to being urgently needed to help ease and alleviate the current energy shortage in the region, also complement the ongoing emergency investment stage for complementary energy generation.

The giants built by WEG are transformers with a power of 500.000 kVA, in the 400.000 V voltage class.

The first unit will be shipped in early April of this year and the second in May, in advance of the agreed contractual deadlines, whose complex transport logistics to the final destination is estimated in 60 days.

On the African Continent, in addition to other important operations, WEG is also present with two transformer manufacturing units, both located near the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, through which it supplies the local market by producing transformers with a voltage class of up to 145 kV.

“WEG reinforces its position in the local market with the punctual delivery of these 500 MVA transformers, necessary to ease the energy shortage experienced in the region. The work carried out, involving the participation of our team in South Africa, reaffirms WEG's commitment to the development of our employees and the transfer of skills, and consequently to the development of the country" says Jan-Frederik Viljoen, WEG's main executive of the units of transformers in South Africa.
