The company Santos Brasil further expanded its capacity for general cargo operations at the Port of Imbituba, located in Santa Catarina, with the installation of a 7,5 m² tarpaulin warehouse at Tecon, increasing the total area that is covered from 8,55 thousand m², of the General Cargo Terminal (TCG), to 16,05 thousand m². All investments made are in the order of R$ 3 million.
Furthermore, the warehouse Tecon Vila do Conde will also have some works for the expansion of its planned investments. Among these works is the elevation of the roof and shelves, making it possible to expand the storage capacity by more than 20% and to expand the area for refrigerated containers by 55%, totaling 450 outlets in all.
In operation since the beginning of January, this new space currently houses 9 tons of big bags of fertilizers, and is also suitable for storing steel and cellulose products, providing protection against external agents such as humidity. and the rain.
However, it is a contribution of approximately R$ 120 million in investments that were aimed at carrying out expansion works and also in the purchase of new equipment, with the objective of increasing more or less 40% of its terminal capacity. , from 217 TEUs/year to more than 300 TEUs/year in 2025. However, the R$ 120 million invested by Santos Brasil should not only be invested in works, but also in the acquisition of new equipment to the terminal.

In 2022 the Port of Imbituba reached a new level, achieving the best result of the year in its history, with the movement of 7,1 million tons. If related to the previous record, recorded in the year 2021, there was an increase of about 3,6% in the volume handled.
