Trucks with Euro 6 engines use CK-4 lubricants, which ensure viscosity control, reducing emissions and meeting environmental requirements.
Trucks equipped with Euro 6 engines now use CK-4 lubricants, which provide excellent viscosity control. These lubricants are essential for reducing emissions, thus meeting today’s stringent environmental requirements. In addition, the innovation provided by these products highlights the industry’s commitment with sustainability.
According to a technical consultant for Mobil™ Lubricants, the use of oils with API-CK4 technology is crucial for diesel vehicles to comply with strict emissions limits. These engine lubricants not only help maintain vehicles, but also play a vital role in preserving the environment. The new generation of products is aligned with the reduction of environmental impacts, confirming the importance of innovative fluids in the automotive sector.
Air Quality and Global Warming
The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that 99% of the global population still breathes unhealthy air, according to data published on April 4, 2022. This survey carried out shows how much air quality is below recommended levels. This statistic adds to several others that increase global concern about the phenomenon of global warming and its serious implications for health and the environment. In Brazil alone, a survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) revealed that 98% of the population is aware of the urgent need to take care of the environment, especially in relation to reducing pollutant gas emissions.

New Standards for Engine Lubricants
In this context, the American Petroleum Institute (API) introduced on December 1, 2016 a new category of lubricants, establishing strict standards for diesel engine lubricants of four-stroke cycle high-speed. This category was created so that trucks, responsible for about 21% of global CO2 emissions, could reduce their carbon footprint by using more efficient and sustainable engine oils and lubricants. The new category, called API CK-4, includes oils that meet rigorous testing and are designed to offer superior performance to the previous category, API CJ-4.
Advantages of CK-4 Lubricants
The Mobil Delvac™ line is an example of a CK-4 lubricant that exceeds API specifications. Lubricants in this line provide 80% better viscosity control at high temperatures, 20% more effective wear protection and 50% better oxidation resistance when compared to the previous API CJ-4 category. These advances in oil technology result in longer-lasting engines and shorter drain intervals, which are essential factors for fleet managers seeking economy and efficiency.
Sustainability and New Standards
In addition to meeting social and industrial demands, API CK-4 category oils are formulated to protect and improve the efficiency of the aftertreatment system in Euro 6 engines. These engines, which are part of the diesel fleet in compliance with the Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Program (Proconve) standard, version P8, limit pollutant emissions and allow the manufacture of more modern and economical engines. The Proconve P8 standards, in force since 2023, require the use of more technological lubricants, such as those from the Mobil Delvac™ line.
Development and Advanced Technologies
José Cesário Neto, training and technical support coordinator at Moove, one of the largest producers and distributors of lubricants and base oils in Brazil, highlighted that the new oils developed to meet the needs of the latest generation of truck engines are compatible with all components of the after-treatment system, such as the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These engine lubricants are identified worldwide as Low SAPS, meaning low sulfated ash, low phosphorus and low sulfur.
The CK-4 specification contains stringent criteria for resistance to oil degradation due to high-temperature oxidation, as measured by the Volvo T13 test, a 360-hour test that simulates the 'aging' of the oil over 80.000 miles. This test, developed by Volvo and ExxonMobil, requires the oil to maintain a viscosity within the range defined by its SAE grade, such as SAE 15W-40. The aim is to increase the oil's durability, allowing for extended drain intervals and reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
The Impact of Mobil™ Lubricants
Mobil™ lubricants are present in various market segments, from taking astronauts into space to powering the industrial, agricultural, land, air and maritime freight sectors, as well as cars, motorcycles and trucks. The brand is always moving side by side with its consumers, contributing to the advancement of their paths towards new achievements. If there is movement, there is Mobil™.
