electric motor - engine - electric vehicle - expensive electric

ZF transforms the industry with a 374 HP electric motor the size of a shoebox. Unprecedented performance. See how it works!

Until recently, size really mattered. And if we wanted to have a powerful engine for our car, there was no other choice than to add cylinders and increase the displacement. Over time, large engines were replaced by much smaller engines with fewer cylinders, but with reasonable and even high power, in addition to a greater sophistication and, above all, some supercharging system, such as the turbo. An electric motor would never have occurred to us

But in the times we live in, the situation has changed, a lot. And the best example we find in the engine developed by ZF, created by one of the most renowned suppliers in the automotive industry and responsible for some of the best gearboxes on the market, which promises 374 HP of power and an enormous torque of up to 5.200 Nm. And all that's about the size of a shoe box.

The ZF is a mechanical set that, with a compact size and very little weight, achieves very high power deliveries for high-performance vehicles, especially in multiple engine configurations.

The transition that makes gasoline obsolete

ZF Friedrichshafen, like the rest of the industry, is experiencing its particular adaptation and transition to the electric vehicle. From developing some of the best transmission systems and clutches for diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines, and many other elements available in our cars, such as suspension systems, the company is already developing new systems that are essential for a new generation of electrified vehicles.

The German company set itself the ambitious goal of becoming the world's first supplier of electric motors, offering mechanics of up to 748 HP, already present in some models on sale.

Their latest creation is a tremendously compact engine, which has already been tested in a Porsche Taycan prototype and which they hope will be on the market in 2026.

An innovative electric motor

EVSys800, as it is called, is a tremendously compact engine. If we consider the entire set, which includes an electric motor, inverter, electronics and gearbox, which would also allow us to do without a traditional gearbox, it weighs just 74 kilograms and takes up less than two stacked shoeboxes.

Its coaxial configuration for the reducer and braided winding of the motor would allow it to be 50% more compact and save 10% copper compared to current motors. Saving space, weight and, consequently, improving efficiency, all while reducing noise and vibrations, and achieving a performance that is not inconsiderable, which makes us think of high-performance vehicles, especially in configurations with two, three or even four engines.

We are talking about peak power of 374 HP and torque of up to 5.200 Nm, with a continuous power of 280 HP. We will see its first applications in the coming years, in which it is expected that ZF will begin production in large volumes of this new generation of electrical mechanics.

I noticed that, but 74kg and in relation to two shoe boxes with gearbox, inverter and motor.
