Karoon said the well is a critical milestone in assessing the prospect of deeper waters in northern Peru. It is the first well to be drilled in the Z-38.
The Stena Forth vessel is a robust, recently delivered drillship capable of drilling much deeper waters and much more difficult sea states than those found in Peru.
Of Karoon's JV partners on Z-38, Tullow Oil Ltd. owns 35% interest and Pitkin Petroleum 25% (OGJ Online, May 8, 2019).
