Anglo American and Tim close new partnership for 4G in nickel and iron ore mining

One of the leaders in the telecommunications sector in Brazil, TIM, closed an agreement with Anglo American, which is one of the main companies in the iron ore mining sector in the world, which will allow the expansion of 4G LTE coverage to five operational plants, located in Goiás, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, with more efficiency, and thus allowing the expansion of connectivity projects, including in more critical regions and activities. More than 3 employees will benefit from the agreement between TIM and Anglo American, on sites related to the production of iron ore and nickel at Anglo American's business units in Brazil.

The deal between TIM and Anglo American means telecom's entry into the iron ore and related mining market, which, according to Ibram, the sector earned more than 150 million in 2019 alone, thus accounting for 4% of GDP. “Supporting connectivity in mines is essential to ensure the continuous deployment of new technologies within a production process”, says TIM's Director of Corporate Solutions, Paulo Humberto Gouvêa.

The expansion of 4G coverage to the cities of Barro Alto and Niquelândia (GO) will allow Anglo American to increase the management of up to 44.000 tons of ferronickel per year. The operation is responsible for the group's main global nickel production, mainly applied in the stainless steel industry. In the Minas Gerais municipalities of Conceição do Mato Dentro and Alvorada de Minas is located the Minas-Rio plant, responsible for extracting and processing iron ore. From there, the product goes via pipeline to Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ). At the port, the company has a plant responsible for filtering the iron ore that will be exported.
