R$2,3 billion in projects promise 80 jobs and improvements to highways. Acceleration of the PAC will transform logistics in the region.

With a billion-dollar loan and a ambitious plan, the government promises to transform the logistics of Mato Grosso do Sul and benefit thousands of workers.

The state government has just taken a bold step to transform the road network in Mato Grosso do Sul.

With an financing of R$ 2,3 billion, Officialized in partnership with BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), the road works promise to boost the region's economy, improve transportation and generate more than 80 thousand jobs by 2048 according to the government itself.

This gigantic contribution is part of the new PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) and will bring changes in 14 cities of the state, ensuring not only the transportation of products and people, but also promoting the development of essential industrial areas. However, Will deadlines and promises be met to the letter?

Funding that goes until 2048

The financing contract, released this Monday (07) in official diary, provides that the State will make the payment in 276 installments, starting in October next year and ending in September 2048.

The R$2,3 billion loan has R$ 300 million in counterpart funding from the state government and will have a correction based on the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index), with pre-fixed interest at 6,28% and a federal bank spread of 1,40% per year.

In addition to the core values, the State will pay a commission of 0,5% to BNDES, which is equivalent to R$11,5 million in the first installment.

This percentage will be allocated before the first payment, as compensation for the guarantee provided by the Union for the loan.

But what will really change for the population of these 14 cities?

Impact on cities and job creation

Among the cities that will benefit most from this work are Innocence and Three Lagoons, both with a strong industrial presence, especially in the cellulose sector.

O Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Guilherme Alcântara, recently commented in an interview with the Campo Grande News Podcast Na Íntegra, that road improvements are fundamental for the region's logistics.

Inocência, for example, will be the stage for a new factory of Arauco, a Chilean multinational in the cellulose sector, which is already in the earthmoving phase.

With this, the forecast is that thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created, especially in the areas of construction, transport and logistics.

According to Governor Eduardo RiedelThe road works and industrialists in the region must directly benefit around 80 thousand workers.

And how do these works affect the transportation of products?

Paving and restoration of strategic highways

The project foresees the paving of 569 kilometers and restoration of 249 kilometers of highways, facilitating the connection between producing and industrial regions.

This goes improve the flow of products such as cellulose and ore, since rail transport was deactivated in much of the state.

The excerpt from MS-377, from Agua Clara, will be one of the main beneficiaries, connecting this region to the Ferronorte network, which should be used by the mining sector to transport products destined for Port of Santos, destined for export.

This route, currently overloaded with trucks, will now have an infrastructure much more suited to the growing demand.

The long road to 2048

Despite the promises, the works should last for 48 months, with the gradual release of values.

The expectation is that, by the end of the contract in 2048, the road network will be completely revitalized and ready to support the region's production volume.

However, the success of this undertaking will depend on the efficient management of resources and the execution of works within the established deadlines.

The promise is great, but will the population of Mato Grosso do Sul see these benefits as quickly as announced?

With more than 80 thousand jobs expected, The billion-dollar loan could be a game changer for the state. However, there are still doubts about the execution capacity and the real impact of the road works.

And you, do you believe that this infrastructure project on the highways will really transform Mato Grosso do Sul or is it just another promise to be fulfilled in the long term? Leave your opinion in the comments!
