With the installation of new solar plants, the city of Tocantins will have high investments and the generation of new jobs for the region of Gurupi

The city of Gurupi, in the southern region of Tocantins, will soon have three solar photovoltaic plants, which will help the city to become a major producer of electricity. solar energy. The announcement took place last Thursday, the 31st, through the mayor Josi Nunes (UB) and her team from the Municipal Secretary of Economic Development and Environment, who have already delivered the first licenses to the representatives responsible for the construction of the solar plants. It is estimated that investments of around R$ 4 billion will be applied over the next 5 years, and that more than 1.000 new jobs will be generated.

Solar plant will have a positive impact on the southern region of Tocantins

According to information provided by the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and the Environment of the city of Gurupi, the three solar energy generating plants will have an accumulated generating potential of around 448,381 Megawatts and will occupy an impacted area of only 910,5 hectares.

The plants received different names: GES Gurupi Energia Solar, Gurupi Photovoltaic Complex and California Photovoltaic Complex

According to Gurupi's Environment director, Diego Rocha, this is a great advantage for the Tocantins city, in relation to the impacts caused by a hydroelectric plant, such as the plant in the city of Peixe, also in Tocantins, which generates 498,75 Megawatts in an area of only 29.400 thousand hectares.

Diego Rocha stated that the distribution of solar energy is the current trend. Rocha also said that, in comparison with a hydroelectric plant, which is currently the main one in the energy matrix of the southern region of Tocantins, the three power plants – as soon as they start operating in the state – will generate a capacity very similar to that of Enerpeixe (in Peixe – TO), but with only a fraction of the total area impacted.

The Director of Environment also highlighted that this type of work with high investments, in addition to the positive impact on the generation of new jobs, the environmental impact and also the expansion of the solar energy generation capacity, will enable the city of Gurupi to become a great photovoltaic solar energy generator pole.

In addition to everything that has already been mentioned here, another advantage is the investment that will be applied during the installation process of the three plants in Gurupi, which add up to around R$ 4 billion guaranteed for the next five years, not to mention the generation of 1.200 new direct jobs and another 300 indirect jobs during the construction period of the solar power plants.

It is estimated that the installation works for the plants will start in mid-2023. Rocha highlighted that the city of Gurupi will become a reference in the North region of Brazil in terms of renewable energy generation. He also pointed out that it is very expensive to transport this type of energy to play in the system, and that now the city has two energy substations, one of which should be expanded, attracting much more investment for the installed plants.

Mayor Josi Nunes praised all the agility of the municipality's environmental team in approving the processes. She stated that there are three major undertakings, which will generate many new jobs and income for the region, in addition to attracting high investments to the city.
