Minister Renan Filho said this Wednesday (18th) that the Ministry of Transport has placed among its priorities for the first 100 days of the new government's management the discussion of the Ferrogrão project with the Ministry of the Environment.
During the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro, the billionaire project to build a railroad to transport agricultural production in the Center-South to the ports in the North of the country was blocked due to environmental concerns. “We are going to defend the advancement of the country's infrastructure within the possible environmental conditions”, said Renan Filho, during presentations of priority actions for his first 100 days in charge of the ministry.
According to Renan Filho, the ministry expects that the feasibility of concession works on the stretch will reach 65%, today it is around 58%. “We still need about 7% of the work to be carried out before we reach what I call the 'break-even point' between whether private investment is viable or not,” he declared. According to him, the corridor should already cover section 2 of Fiol, which is located in western Bahia, and possibly section 3 of the railway, which is located in Goiás. Renan says it does not foresee the use of budget resources in these works, with the expectation of publishing a public notice for the remaining works of lot 7F of Fiol 2 in the month of April. These works will be financed by cross-investments – which were reserved by anticipating the renewal of concessions.
This corridor concession is a project of the Ministry of Infrastructure which was still under the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Ferrogrão, on the other hand, is a project that we should not consider new, as it was thought of back in the Dilma government.

For journalists, this Wednesday (18), Renan says he should talk to Marina Silva, so that they can unlock the Ferrogão, which should open a new route for the flow of grains through Mato Grosso to the ports of Pará. "From time to time, there may be one or the other conflict... But it is not possible to balance the two things", he added in response to a journalist who asked him how the dialogue with the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, historical critic from the project.
Today, this project is completely stopped by decision of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), since a direct action of unconstitutionality filed by PSOL. The party has been questioning the route of the railroad, which has been determined in provisional measures, which consequently changed the boundaries of the Jamanxim National Park. Also this Wednesday (18), Renan said he wants to increase the railway modal to 40% of the national logistics matrix by the year 2035. Currently, it represents less than 20%.
