It is the second time in less than a month that the Volkswagen factory has been stopped, and the union demands the government's industrial policy
Last Friday (the 10th), the ABC Metallurgist Union announced that 3.000 Volkswagen employees should go on collective vacation due to the lack of parts and electronic components to finalize the production of cars. The factory in question is located in the city of São Bernardo do Campo, in Greater São Paulo.
According to the union, the workers were informed that the stoppage should last for ten days, from June 27th to July 7th.
The vacation request was filed in advance due to the agreement established between Volkswagen and the union, which concerns prior notice of decisions of this type. However, the suspension of the production line at the Anchieta factory, in São Bernardo (Sao Paulo), can only be confirmed when the date is closer, since, until then, changes may occur.

2.500 metallurgists had already gone through collective vacations from the 9th to the 28th of May
In May, Volkswagen had already granted collective vacations to 2.500 workers, also due to problems in the component supply chain, with the lack of semiconductors. The metallurgists were out of the factory from the 9th to the 28th of May.
According to the ABC Metallurgists Union, these are practically the same employees who will go on vacation this time, with an addition of 500 workers who had not been suspended last month. The Volkswagen unit currently has around 8,2 workers, 4,5 of which in production. Part of them will remain at the factory in order to carry out maintenance services.
José Roberto Nogueira da Silva points out that supply problems impact not only the automotive sector, but the entire Brazilian industrial sector
According to the general coordinator of representation at Volkswagen, José Roberto Nogueira da Silva – Bigodinho -, the problem of lack of components has been affecting not only the automobile industry, but also the entire national industry. Therefore, for him, all workers end up directly affected. Nogueira also criticized the government, highlighting that the lack of industrial and development policy in the country has caused the disruption of the national production chain.
In addition, José Roberto Nogueira da Silva also stated that the agreement in force at the automaker, negotiated between the ABC Metallurgical Union and Volkswagen, ensures that employees have predictability in relation to the situation of your jobs.
The general coordinator concluded that it is very important, at this moment, that there is a long-term agreement to foresee scenarios like this, which have been going on for a long time. For him, the agreement allows the workers to organize themselves and the company to be able to think about the future of the plant.
150 Volkswagen vehicles have already stopped being produced as a result of the lack of components for production
According to the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), 16 factories have already had to stop production from January to May this year due to the shortage of semiconductors and other items necessary for automobile manufacturing. So far, 150 thousand vehicles ceased to be produced in the period.
The supply crisis began in mid-2021, and worsened after the war in Ukraine. However, China's lockdown, which lasted for several weeks, also took a toll on the global supply chain. Thus, since May, several other parts have also become scarce, affecting the automotive industry and others.
