Chevrolet is preparing to launch a new diesel engine in Brazil, aiming to compete with Toyota and Ford pickup trucks, promising greater power and efficiency.

Silverado, after its return to the Brazilian market in the exclusive variant High country, adapted especially for Brazil, is preparing for new releases. In early 2024, the long-awaited Z71 version is expected to arrive. However, an option that may be less known is the Silverado equipped with the new Chevrolet Duramax 3.0 diesel engine.

New Chevrolet engine has great advantages for the Brazilian public

Os Toyota engines are revolutionizing the automotive industry and automakers, such as Chevrolet, are trying to keep up, mainly with their new Chevrolet Duramax 3.0 diesel engine. This engine stands out for combining technology, power and efficiency. Since it was launched in 2001, the Duramax line has evolved, excelling in power and torque.

Known for their robustness when towing, Duramax engines are a common choice in the brand's heavy-duty trucks and the recent Duramax 3.0 six-cylinder engine shows significant advancements in these areas. The trajectory of Chevrolet's new engine is marked by constant innovation despite challenges in the past. Since its debut, the line has established itself as strong competitor in the diesel segment.

The 3.0 in-line six-cylinder model exemplifies engineering precision and innovations. In design, the new Chevrolet engine offers features such as a start stop system, which increases fuel consumption efficiency and quieter operation compared to other diesel engines.

The new 2023 Duramax is a revolution in terms of power and torque, as this innovative version with its 3.0 inline six-cylinder engine is an excellent choice for those looking for performance and autonomy.

In the USA, this engine powers notable vehicles such as the Silverado 1500 and the Tarol and Suburban SUVs, all from Chevrolet and powered by diesel.

New Chevrolet engine for Brazil delivers 350 horsepower

In 2023, this engine was further improved, receiving an increase of 28 horsepower in power and an increase of around 25 kg in torque. Chevrolet's new engine is an example of innovation in the field of diesel engines.

With advanced technologies that are not so common in this type of engine, it stands out in the market, offering 350 horsepower at 3750 revolutions. Its torque is, impressively, close to 70 kg and is available at 1.500 revolutions.

This mechanical package is complemented by a 10-speed automatic transmission that ensures smooth and continuous acceleration. A notable feature of the Duramax 3.0 is its silent operation, a rare quality in diesel engines.

Furthermore, it is equipped with an exhaust brake, that is, this system allows engine compression to help reduce the vehicle's speed, reducing the use of mechanical brakes. This is particularly useful for preventing overheating when you need to tow heavy loads.

New engine also focuses on fuel economy

The Silverado 1500, equipped with this engine, has impressive fuel economy, varying between 10 and 11 km per L, and this occurs in combined highway and city cycles in both normal traction and 4×4. It is particularly ideal for the Brazilian market, where there is a great preference for diesel trucks, necessary for heavy work.

Internationally, three models dominate the diesel market, namely: Ford F150, the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500.

Interestingly, these models are also available in Brazil, but in their gasoline versions. Ram, in turn, ended production of its 3.0 eco diesel engine in January 2023. Ford had already discontinued its 3.0 powerstroke diesel engine in 2021.
