A value of R$ 5,24 million transferred by Vale to the State of Minas Gerais, will be used to reinforce the fight against COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Nova Lima, March 19, 2020 – The State of Minas, through the State Department of Health, will allocate, in the coming days, R$ 5,24 million previously transferred by Vale, to reinforce the work to combat COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

In March 2019, the company transferred the resource to the State, for the preparation of a study on the risks of waste to human health. However, after joint evaluations, the company itself took charge of carrying out this study, which is still in progress. The amount previously made available, therefore, will be used for renovation, improvement of infrastructure and expansion in the number of ICU beds at Hospital Eduardo de Menezes, in Belo Horizonte.

The resource will be used in the construction of a new wing for the hospital, in addition to its equipment. The space will have 12 rooms with one bed each (with an antechamber and an accessible bathroom), an access control room to the isolation rooms, a nursing station and medical prescription services, among other improvements. The Medical Ambulatory will be equipped, among other items, with a room for the coordination of Nursing services, in addition to four new medical offices.

This transfer of funds is part of Vale's effort to repair the damage caused to the State of Minas Gerais by the rupture of dam I, in Brumadinho, in addition to its social commitment to assist the State in its mission to take care of miners.
