If the vote on the collective agreement is positive, the Volkswagen factory will produce a new car, in addition to expanding benefits for its workers and opening around 130 job vacancies in Taubaté.

The Volkswagen factory, located in Taubaté, is about to undergo a revolution, bringing good news for workers and boosting the sector automobile in the region. The collective bargaining agreement, which is being discussed, provides for the manufacture of a new car model, an SUV, and the opening of more than 130 job vacancies, in addition to guaranteeing stability in employment contracts until 2028.

One of the main novelties is the production of a new SUV vehicle, scheduled for release in 2025.

This not only diversifies the factory's production line, but also promises to boost the automobile market in the region.

Benefits for workers

In addition to the perspective of new jobs, the collective agreement brings improvements for factory employees. Among the main points are:

  • Job guarantee until 2028: Workers will have job security for the next five years.
  • Hiring 137 employees: Production of the SUV will require the hiring of 137 new employees, strengthening the team.
  • Increase in the salary floor: The salary floor will rise from R$2.100 to R$2.400, providing more attractive remuneration.
  • Improved food vouchers: Workers will receive a R$1.000 food voucher.
  • Participation in profits and results: Participation in profits and results will also increase, going from R$15.740 to R$17 thousand.

Measures to maintain the competitiveness of the Volkswagen factory are also part of the package

To maintain the factory's competitiveness, Volkswagen will also adopt some measures, such as maintaining the Voluntary Dismissal Program, which has been in force since 2021.

Furthermore, collective vacations and layoffs will be used when the market presents instability.

The outsourcing of 65 workers in the pre-assembly and maintenance sectors is also part of the company's plan.

Volkswagen's latest investment in the Taubaté unit was announced in 2021, with the implementation of the new production line on the MQB platform.

This investment is part of the R$7 billion that the company planned to invest in Latin America between 2022 and 2026.

Although the exact value for the Taubaté factory has not been reported.

With the MQB platform, the factory expanded its operation to three shifts and employed around 3.100 employees.

Job stability, at the time, was guaranteed until 2025.

However, in March this year, the factory faced challenges due to sales of zero cars lower than expected, which resulted in collective vacations for around 2.900 workers.

In July, a two-month layoff was planned for 800 employees, but due to the positive sales performance of the Polo Track, manufactured at the unit, the layoff was suspended.

Ultimately, the company opted for an additional 10 days of collective vacation for 2.000 employees.

This collective agreement at the Volkswagen factory in Taubaté is a positive sign for the local economy and workers, strengthening the automobile industry in the region and offering job opportunities in a sector that is fundamental to Brazil's growth.
