WEG intends to increase the production of renewable energy structures in Brazil, increasing the use of solar energy in the country
The renowned electro-electronic equipment company, WEG, is ready to expand its operations in the solar energy market in Brazil. In an effort to further encourage the sector and expand its portfolio, this year WEG will launch a line of metallic structures for fixing own brand modules.
Recently, the company surprised the photovoltaic sector by presenting its new line of single-phase inverters. These initiatives have the main objective of boosting the residential solar energy market, boosting the adoption of this clean and sustainable source.
Currently, WEG occupies the position of the 5th largest company in market value and has already delivered more than 4 GW of installed power in photovoltaic solar energy systems, according to Status Invest, a reference platform for investment analysis.

Innovation on Brazilian soil
WEG's trajectory in the solar energy sector has been marked by innovation and commitment to energy efficiency, renewable energies and electric mobility. Founded in 1961, the company is globally recognized and has industrial operations in 15 countries, presence commercial in 37 countries and sales to more than 135 countries. Its more than 40 employees around the world are responsible for net sales of R$29,9 billion in 2022, with more than 50,3% coming from sales outside Brazil.
WEG's incursion into the solar market began in 2012, when the company began to study the development of solutions in solar inverters, based on the expertise acquired with its already consolidated industrial inverter in the market. At that time, however, the Brazilian solar energy market still lacked incentives and the return on investment was not viable. Therefore, the development of technology was restricted to the field of research and development in partnership with some universities.
It was only in 2013 that WEG won a bid to supply a 500 kWp Full EPC plant in Fernando de Noronha (PE). In collaboration with a German company, the project was developed in modules and string inverters were imported for implementation.
WEG projects
Based on the know-how acquired during this first project, WEG participated in other projects of solar energy in EPC format until 2016, when the partnership with integrators began. From that moment on, WEG started supplying the equipment, while the integrators took responsibility for the design and installation.
In 2019, with the partnership with several integrators already consolidated, WEG stopped participating directly in EPC projects for Distributed Generation plants, focusing on large solar power plants.
