The Kairós wind power plant, owned by the Darby International Capital Group, in the city of Icapuí, aims to increase Ceará's presence in renewables and generate many jobs

O Ceará reaffirms its position as one of the leaders in wind power in Brazil with the inauguration of Kairos wind farm, located in the municipality of Icapui.

The event, held this Wednesday (12), was attended by the governor Elmano de Freitas and representatives of the Group Darby International Capital, responsible for the project.

With an investment of R $ million 750, the new structure will represent a significant increase in R$ 2,175 billion to GDP of the state, according to a study by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). During the inauguration, the governor highlighted the importance of the initiative for the development of Ceará.

“A significant quantity of energy, enough to supply around 260 thousand homes, the equivalent of a city the size of Teresina, in Piauí. This investment is not only fundamental for Ceará, but for all of Brazil, as it strengthens our economy through clean energy.”, emphasized Elmano de Freitas.

Technology and job creation

A Kairos wind farm has a generating park of 112,5 MW of installed capacity, distributed in 25 wind turbines of the V150-4,5MW type.

One of the highlights of the project is that all the turbines were manufactured in Aquiraz, strengthening the local industry and consolidating Ceará as a hub for the production of equipment for the sector wind power.

The project also had a positive impact on the job market. During the construction phase, around 1.200 jobs were created, and at least 60 permanent vacancies were created for operation and maintenance activities.

The governor reinforced the importance of these investments to boost the economy of Ceará.

“We are working hard to make Ceará’s industry grow, generating jobs, income and development for Icapuí and the entire state”, highlighted.

The director of Darby International, Ricardo Roccia, also emphasized the importance of the project for the growth of the sector wind power in Brazil.

“This investment marks the beginning of a promising cycle. We are committed to sustainable development and maintaining direct and indirect jobs for the state.”, Roccia said.

Economic impact and regional development

investments in wind power have been transforming the economy of Ceará and bringing significant benefits to the municipalities where the plants are implemented.

A study carried out by researchers from Federal University of Ceará (UFC) revealed that the GDP per capita of cities that received this type of project grew 20% between 2001 and 2022.

In addition to generating clean and renewable energy, these projects boost municipal revenue and encourage the creation of new job opportunities.

The president of the Vestas Latin America, Eduardo Ricotta, reinforced the relevance of the public-private partnership in this context.

“This partnership with the Government of Ceará is essential. We manufacture all of our equipment in Aquiraz, which strengthens the local production chain. Furthermore, investments like this increase revenue by at least 20% and generate quality jobs, training the regional workforce.”, explained Ricotta.

To the mayor of Icapui, Kleiton Pereira, the arrival of the Kairós wind farm represents a turning point for the municipality. He highlighted the positive impacts that the project will bring to the local population.

“Icapuí is ready to welcome new ventures that help develop our city. This investment improves the quality of life of our population and strengthens the local economy. Our word is gratitude.”, he said.

Promising future for wind energy in Ceará

The state of Ceará has consolidated itself as a national reference in wind power, driving new investments and strategic partnerships.

With favorable natural potential and public policies aligned with sustainable development, Ceará remains at the forefront of energy transition in Brazil.

A inauguration of the Kairós wind farm represents another important step in this journey, guaranteeing economic benefits, job creation and a more sustainable energy matrix for the future.

The expectation is that new projects will continue to drive the state's growth and reinforce its position as a leader in the sector. wind power.

With initiatives like this, Ceará proves that investing in wind power not only contributes to environmental preservation, but also boosts the economy, strengthens industry and improves the population's quality of life.

Will we soon see more municipalities following this path of innovation and sustainability?
