The HVAC equipment company's factory will have an annual production capacity of 1,3 million products and the estimate is that the unit will be ready in 2024
The Chinese giant Midea, one of the largest manufacturers of home appliances and leader in air conditioning equipment, has started work on its first 100% own factory in Brazil, located in Pouso Alegre, in the south of Minas Gerais, which will generate hundreds of jobs directly and indirectly, according to the website O Tempo.
The new manufacturing unit will have the capacity to produce 1,3 million products per year and Midea plans to invest around R$ 600 million in the project, generating approximately 500 direct jobs and another 200 indirect ones in the region.
Midea Global Expansion with a strategic focus on Brazil
Midea is in a process of global expansion and Brazil is considered one of the largest white goods markets in the world and the largest in Latin America. Currently, the multinational already has participation in two factories in Brazil, in Manaus/AM and Canoas/RS, through of a commercial partnership with Carrier, and the new factory in Pouso Alegre, in Minas Gerais, reinforces its strategic presence in the country, with the generation of job openings.

With the opening of the new factory in Brazil, Midea Carrier, the company resulting from the partnership between Midea and Carrier, aims to become one of the three main players in the market within four years. The factory, which will be inaugurated in July 2024, will have the production of Frost Free two-door refrigerators, which are expected to go on sale in the third quarter of next year. In addition, the company has plans to expand its production to other appliances and equipment and, consequently, offer more job vacancies.
According to the CEO of Midea, Felipe Costa: “Our goal is to be among the three main players in the market within four years and the opening of our factory in Brazil provides the competitiveness necessary for us to be relevant in the refrigeration segment, in addition to providing job opportunities for professionals in the region”.

Present in more than 200 countries and with more than 160 employees worldwide, Midea has approximately 1.500 employees in Brazil and reaffirms its commitment to the creation of job openings in the Brazilian market, demonstrating willingness to continue investing in factories in the country, according to Felipe Costa, CEO of Midea Carrier.
